how easy is it to set up a second monitor. I've used to monitor before and I loved it, but is there any additional cost besides buying a second monitor?

If you got a DVI output on your video card you can get a adapter cable to run the second monitor.

I use two separate video cards. The hard part was turning the screws to the pc case. lol.

I have two geforce cards. one agp and one pci

Some cards will allow you to setup dual display on that one card, but it will be sharing the power of that one card across two displays.

but then again I have things set up a bit differently [tongue]

my setup

Funny. I only use one monitor and I still got 800 pixels of width on you.

what are saying? you have a width of 2720? thats odd.

that pic is scaled down for the net, I have both monitors at 1280 x 1024 - either way, whatever works best for you, go for it.

I didn't realize they were scaled. You have the same width as I.

Here are some very useful tips on using lights most by raven of ravensoft

This is 1 I found very fast way to make my light the size I wanted
Quote:
Here is some useful info. from Lloyd Morris:

Not sure if this has been covered yet but one quick way to create a light of the size you want without guessing/calculating values is to create a brush of the size light you want and then right-click and select light entity to convert it to a light.

That's a beautiful hint, swampy.

(edit: I see this was all in that link, i guess I should learn to read [tongue] , I'll leave it anway))

Here, I got another 1:

after you have the light radius the size you want (using the method swampy mentioned) hit "J" (bringing up the light editor), and click the option for "center" - you then can actually manipulate where the center of the the light should be.

for example -

1. you put a light decal on the ceiling

2. you make a brush that is slightlay larger vertically than the room, so that it extends above the ceiling and below the floor.

3. convert it to a light entity

4. bring up the editot

5 select "center" and choose a value for the blank that says "z" - this wil make a little dot appear over the light entity - this little dot is the center of the light (not the light entity symbol we are useed to from Q3 games)

6 manipulate this "z" value so that the little dot is just barely below the ceiling.

**so what you have done now, in effect, is use the brush size to decide how far the light goes, but use the "center" value to actually determine the direction and origin on the light.

That link is VERY informative. r_showlightcount 1 is very nice. r_showlightcount 2 is the same thing except it also shows the overdraw and seems to show the lighting in a bit more detail.
