That link is VERY informative. r_showlightcount 1 is very nice. r_showlightcount 2 is the same thing except it also shows the overdraw and seems to show the lighting in a bit more detail. ... [more]

If you make the fog entity the exact same size as the room you will get that weird glitchy effect. It looks almost like Z fighting and perhaps it is. To get rid of it make the fog extend past the wall boundrys just a tad. As for the fade in I have no idea... [more]
