Here is some useful info. from Lloyd Morris:

Not sure if this has been covered yet but one quick way to create a light of the size you want without guessing/calculating values is to create a brush of the size light you want and then right-click and select light entity to convert it to a light.

Ummmm ok, has anyone tried this? I have tried this multiple times. The brush turns into a light and everything seems just as it should be. But after I compile and run the map and goto where this light should be there is no light at all. I have made the brush the size of the room, I have made them smaller than the room but NONE of them cast any light at all. And before you ask, YES the lights are inside of the room. When I hit J and bring up the light editor all the settings are identical to a light created by just adding a light entity except for the size. I don't get it, what am I doing wrong?

hmmm... compare the radius to a light created by right clicking. I bet this has something to do with it.

I think I might have tried playing with the radius numbers on lights and found something similar.

This method is fine for creating fog (which uses lights), but might have a bad effect on emitting light correctly.

The radius is different than a light created by right clicking because it is determined by how large you make the brush? Right? Ok so I created a brush now and it was the size to perfectly fill the room. I turned it into a light. The radius was 192,192,128. I compiled the map and ran it and there was no light at all. I went back to the editor and looked at a light created by right clicking and the radius of that is 300,300,300. So I changed the Z value to 192 and it now works. AFter making a few more lights this way it seems that the Z value is the culprit. This method of creating lights sets the Z value way too low and it must be changed for the light to work properly.

The brush MUST be bigger than the room, or AT LEAST touch a wall/side/ceiling

Think about it this way

- if the brush doesnt touch the wall - light wont touch the wall

- if the brush doesnt touch the floor - the light wont touch the floor

It does work by radious from the center point, and it will be brightest at the center - at the very edge, you WONT see much light, if any.

I havent seen that happen as you say Juice, that is weird.

Yes, I know. I did make one that extended passed the walls of the room and it had the same problem. I just had to adjust the Z value and everythings fine now.

Hmmm weird, I guess I just havent had that happen to me - and I always make a brush and then right click it into being a light.

The lighting editor key dont work in fullscreen mode. Try to start the doom3 with the following shortcut: ...DOOM3.exe" + r_fullscreenmode0. If you start the game with this - not fullscren mode - , then the J button have to work.

Sorry this shortcut does not work. The other way , that you modify a line in the doomconfig.cfg file :

seta r_fullscreen "1" - fullscreen

seta r_fullscreen "0" - windowed
