Forget about Call of Duty 3. That console-only title isn't going to make it in the modding world. Instead, I've got Call of Duty 4 in my sights. Infinity Ward is supposedly coming up with the next title of CoD. This one is expected to skip right over World War II and hit us with more current battles.

Here's a second link with more details.

Hmmm, sounds interesting but will wait for demo before passing judgement. We may be pleasantly surprised.

Whats the chances that if its definatelly not a WW2 sim and the game engine surprisingly better that a WW2 Mod conversion will be made anyway [lol]

ow nice, verry nice in deed, even though any one can make a custom, more future map, and any 1 can mod a skin so that we have a modern american on the field.....

so, whats going to be so special about this game...

we have missed the 3rd installment on the PC, all were going to get from COD4 is the ability to shoot off some ones ear, and play spin the bottle (helmet) on an allied solder WOOOOOOOOOW, (sarcasm attempt)

could be good, but i bet infinity ward, activision who ever realease tis, hey maybe even EA, will it just be a remake of the battlefield series?? COD2142 maybe??

well i hope it wil be good, and we ahve origional functions such as driving, and multiple weapons this time....

any ways that my thought, oeverall i will find the game pleasing to play but still be remembered of the battlefield series. [sleeping]

Well... CoD2 for me was a huge let down... It was hyped up to be the most realistic WW2 FPS experience yet... Instead it was the most scripted, unrealistic, pile of crap WW2 game ever made, sporting less realism than RTCW & a worrying lack of everything that made CoD1 & UO so great... Also, lets not forget the fact that the game runs on the most poorly optimized engine ive ever seen (why the hell didnt they buy the rights to use the Q4 engine?)... Then came CoD3... As if being for consoles only was not enough of an insult, the gameplay and features are identical to CoD2 with a few novelty additions & a lack of realism that even a 5 year old would notice... As if to give us a final insult we are now going to be treated with the most unrealistic modern combat game to date (apart from CS:S which is the absolute bottom of the realism scale)... After being behind the 2 single most insulting and utterly abysmal WW2 games ever made (yes I know they didn't make CoD3 but they delegated the job to Treyarch) they are now moving on to ruin the modern combat FPS genre too... I at least had a tiny bit of hope for CoD4 but now I have none... All I can say is thank god i've got Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45... The annoying thing is that with CoD2 IW even tried to ruin the mapping & modding community by releasing a load of prefabs with the SDK... All that did was result in a load of kids & retards that could barely make a skybox start releasing maps that were nothing more than a skybox, a flat brush for terrain, & a few prefabs dotted around... CoD2 stock maps were shoddy too... No beautiful distant scenery and sweeping hills outside the level boundary... Instead a shoddy low res skybox & a tall hedge that has "we can't be arsed to make good games because all we want is your hard earned cash" written all over it...

Farewell CoD...

while i agree somewhat with Tim, I think he's a bit too critical.

What would a realistic WWII experience be? It would be BAD. WWII in real life was NOT exciting. The battles and firefights in real war are not intensly concentrated with explosions n poo-poo. The adrenaline comes from the fact that you could die, not that its an amazing experience and u can see germans everywhere and muzzleflashes obscure ur vision.

The videogame WWII experience needs to by hyped up the way CoD2 and 3 have done it.

I beg to differ... CoD2 & 3 are what I call "movie" games in the sense that they make you feel like you are in a movie with fully scripted enemies & glorified muzzle flashes & effects, etc... Games such as Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 give a no frills realistic war experience... No glorified effects & movie feel, just a realistic approximation of what being in battle would be like... No balanced weapons & over emphasized sounds, etc... RO uses real ballistics, realistic sounds, etc, & realism to the extent that you have to manually operate the bolt on bolt action rifles with a second click of the mouse... The sheer realism forces teamplay in a way that no other game has seen... RO plays better than any other WW2 game to date and has set a benchmark in terms of realism and gameplay and games like CoD2 & 3 dont even come close...

I still prefer playing CoD & UO , i thought COD2 was rushed and i found it shocking not as shocking as EA's patches for BF2 but thats a different story , they waited a few years before releasing UO now have rushed straight into COD2,3,4 im guessing that COD4 will be for people with more highend gaming machines judging by screenshots IMO

I prefer UO still, infact i hardly ever public play CoD2 anymore. CoD4 screenshots i saw a couple of months ago, and to be honest it doesnt look much diiferent to CoD2, slightly better graphics, but hey you can have the best graphics in the world and if your gameplay is crap it wont do well.

Thats where i think atfer CoD2 it failed, CoD & UO are fine, ok graphics aint anything to shout about, but the gameplay, is unmatched to any other online game i have played for WW2. CoD2 is better graphics, but at the cost of gameplay.

And then RO i find to be possibly the worst WW2 game i have ever played, ok it may be more realstic, but if i wanted realism, I'd join the Army. The simple answer is if your playing a game, then find what you enjoy, theres only 2 games i will public play at currently and thats UO and BF2.

Basically it comes down to a realistic enviroment... and without ruining gameplay.. realistic feel/fighting etc.

I like COD2, (although it took me a while to like it) the only thing it lacks for me is realistic aiming and shooting of the weapons... if I tried 95% of how people kill each other in COD2 down the gun club... I would end up shooting at the ceiling (its and indoor range...) and missing the target by half a mile.

If they do release a modern day game... they must lose the space bars jump ability and use their clever mantle system... imagine our guys in Iraq/Afghanistan etc right now... bunny hopping all over the place and "jump sniping".... it just does not happen.

(p.s on the most part.. well said Tim451)

i think that if CoD4 had the movement capabilities that u see in something like Ghost Recon: Advanced WarFighter, it would be a much better game. Half of the lack of realism in CoD comes from the player's incredible agility and speed. But i doubt theyll change it. For every 100 of us who think it should be changed, theres 3,000 more who like it how it is but dont post up about it.
