SKY BOX TUTORIAL : [ToC]Blackjak

adding a skybox to your map is different for cod w@W as it uses an animated skybox which is very cool

ok , first we need to add skybox model to our map

open your map in radiant and press N

then add this as a key and value :

example :

key : skyboxmodel
value : skybox_pel2

(other skybox models can be found in /raw/xmodel)

then we need to add all the worldspawn settings that you want , you can find them in the wiki

next we need to add a traditional skybox to stop any leak error's in the compile

draw a box around the entire map , no gaps and texture it with the corresponding sky texture

textures/usage/sky

next we need to add this line to our levelname.csv /zone_source/mp_levelname.csv

xmodel,skybox_pel2

compile and run your map and you should see your true skybox , enjoy :)[cool][cool]

Also, for the zombie skybox:

Radiant doesn't show me the skybox_zombie texture when I select Textures>>Usage>>Sky nor can I find it through "all", but it IS in the xmodel folder, so simply follow this tutorial, but once you apply a sky texture (use "skybox_fly" since it is closely colored) to the skybox brushes you created, while the box is highlighted, use N and the modify the key/value to key: skyboxmodel value: skybox_zombie

WARNING: If you mistype that value, radiant will crash when you try to reload the map!! (Glad I save multiple copies often :) )

Wait a minute... You have to make a skybox out of brushes AND add a skybox model? Just wondering for when I finally get the game and map with the tools.

Yeah, it appears that way from the tuts. The diff between COD4 and COD:WW is that the maps seem to come with a default sky model in the background that you can edit in the N-entity window... you can run a test map with this alone, you don't even need a skybox. However, it seems as if you need to put in a skybox yourself, according to the wiki, which I guess you need to stop leaks for portaling. I am [confused] as well.

The models are an addition, it brings moving clouds, effect in sky [thumbs_up]

The leaks will still happen using the standard required Skybox made of brushes.

you shoudnt get any leaks if youve added a traditional skybox

if you are getting a leak error in the compile then somthing is wrong , it means that light is escaping into the 3d world outside your skybox and thats not good

possible reasons for a leak to occur :

gap in the skybox

entity outside your skybox

Hogan, the first post I made in this thread explains how to get passed that. Basically, with nothing selected hit "N" and type in the key/value, key: skyboxmodel value: skybox_zombie

And then create your traditional skybox using brushes and texture it with the skybox_fly texture, while this traditional skybox is selected hit "N" and type in the key value, key: skyboxmodel value: skybox_zombie

Yes, you have to do it twice... once for the model (comes default in the background) and then once for the skybox brushes you have to create.

If there's still an issue, re-read this carefully.

Also, you may not see changes in the skyboxes until you either A) save and quit radiant, then reopen your map or B) compile your map and reopen it in radiant.
