Graydiant allows for multiple mappers to work on the same map, so I was thinking that Mods Online should have a contest.
The maps would be made by teams of mods online members. These teams would have a captain, and all the teams would be fairly equal as far as experience. These maps would be part of a map pack for the CoDUO server, when it gets running again.
First, I want to see if anyone is interested in this. Also, I want the Mods Online site to approve this and do the judging of the maps, if that is possible. If anyone is interested please post, so we can set the ground work for rules, teams, and judging. |

Ok, here are some rules (these can be changed)
1. Teams will be chosen by the experience of the mappers, so that beginners have the opportunity to work with experts, but they are required to pull their own weight. (not really a rule)
2. depending on how many ppl are interested, there will be a different number of teams. About 3-6 ppl should be on a team, although that can be adjusted.
3. The maps will basically follow the rules for most contests i have seen, but won't be exactly like them: A. Must take place during WWII B. Must have dm, tdm, sd, re, bel, hq, but ctf, dom, and bas are optional. C. The more a map has, the better, both physical size and detail. (it will take good designing to keep # of tris down) D. A historical setting is not required, but the setting needs to be a WWII battlefield. E. Custom textures are allowed, but they must be pre-approved.
4. Prefabs are a huge part of this contest, but taking huge prefabs from other maps is strongly discouraged.
5. no cheating! i really don't know how you can cheat when making a map for a contest, but i know this will come up sometime along the way.
6. if you want to be a mapper for this contest, you must be somewhat knowledgable in mapping, but this is a learning experience. You don't need uo unless you are the captain of your team. The finished maps will be for uo.
7. A deadline will be set, and all testing for the maps will need to be done before that date.
8. Someone who didn't participate in the contest will be the judge, grading on appearance, gameplay, creativeness, technique, as well as whether or not the team actually funtioned as a team, or if one person did most of the work.
9. Finally, the maps will be released to the public in a map pack, and it will become a legend in mapping history. lol |

I like the sound of this a lot.
Lets hope some more people show interest, the new layer system realy helps break the process down, so I would like to be involved.
I am going to submit my own map for the public early next week -- UO_flak88 currently in the projects section and screen shots in the custom map forum.
I will be keeping an eye on this and comon people get enuthiastic. I know we are all busy doing our own mapping but working on a joint project could help us all learn to advance our skills and build something that everyone xcan enjoy |
