Why not script the minimap to where it does not draw the minimap until your player has visited those parts of the minimap? I thought it would be cool to not know exactly where you are because you havent explored the map enough yet..
This might be more of a mod idea, but I thought it sounded cool and that I'd post it so that anyone who wished could give it a go, or give me a place to start in trying to do something like this ;)
You play too many RTS games. Isnt the whole point of having a mini map.....to give you a map of the layout?? This isnt an exploration game. |

I know its not ment to be an exploration game, but it'd still be kindof interesting to not have the minimap there to fully guide you; I notice that I rely on the UAV more and more for watching my arse. I thought it'd be interesting to have a minimap that didnt show u exactly where people were in the layouts of the buildings around you (when UAV is active or they're firing)
I honestly dont play that many RTS games, only EE, Warcraft, and Rome: Total War.
I believe a 3D map would be a major mod for cod4 and very difficult to put in.
SpeedHighway:
I dont think you quite understood.. I dont want to hide specific rooms on the minimap, make it so that you have to actually see the parts of the map for it to show up on the minimap.. If you havent seen that portion of the map in first-person (or third for modded servers) then you cant see it on the minimap (IE, it blacks it out unless you've been there). Though this would be a good idea for making people not appear on UAV when inside of secret rooms, etc (if i decide to add them).
Right now I havent got the time to start making something like this, especially since I dont yet have a map completed... Everyone feel free to do it, though, as I'd love to see something like this running on a server ;) |

NovemberDobby writes...Quote: Definitely an interesting idea, but I don't know if it could be done. Hud elements could get extremely messy, plus the scripting that goes along with them. You could easily make it so there's a shroud overlay apart from where the player currently is, but I can't think of any simple way to have a temporary cover.
It could be possible if the minimap was stationery...can that be done by changing the compass range? The minimap in the main menu doesn't move either, but then you'd have to do scripting in menu files, which is far from easy
As far as I know, the minimap just scrolls along a large stationary image... I've seen that you can adjust the zoom of the minimap, and make it not rotate, etc... |
