First, delete all the old files from your previous compilations. That includes the old bsp file, the prt, and the poly file. Leave your map file alone (obviously)
Second, run the Q3MAP program WITHOUT using codpiler or codbuilder.
Just use a batch file like the sample one below...
Code:
|
cd ....toolsbin
q3map ../../main/maps/yourmapname
q3map -vis -fast ../../main/maps/yourmapname
cd ....
pause
|
|
When troubleshooting any problem, simplify as much as possible, and remove as many assumptions as possible. Don't assume that the problem is necessarily Q3MAP (although it probably is).
Running the batch file, watch as Q3MAP compiles your program. If you still get an error, write it down (or copy and paste), and post it to this thread. Q3MAP should report the details of any problem encountered. |

wyatt did a very nice video tut on making hills
http://www.modsonline.com/Downloads-dl-551.html
you also should consider this:
if your mesh requires little in the way of shaping, bending, or modifying...keep the vertices to a minimum. for example - if i were going to do a flat piece of terrain with maybe a couple of minor ups and downs, I would not create a small patch mesh with a large amount of vertices & replicate it... i would be more inclined to create a larger mesh - thus creating less vertices...
too many can kill your fps |

Does Q3MAP crash immediately upon running the batch file? If not, can you tell what stage it crashes at?
What should happen is a dos window should open up, and you'll see the Q3MAP working. It will go through things like...
"Loading map file ..."
"finding triangle windings..."
"merging into concave windings..."
You should see this stuff unless it is crashing before those stages.
Is it hanging on the "emitting triangles" part???
Can you tell where it is crashing at? |
