I am getting this error when trying to convert my weapon into an xmodel. " ERROR: Exceeded 4096 vertices on surface 'metal@nebelhandgranate39.dds' of object 'Cylinder01' " How can I fix this?

It probably means (part of) your weapon has too many vertices.

Try making your model a bit less complex should do the trick. Remember alot of "depth" effects can be made by skinning and don't have to be modeled perfectly.

thanks, I kind of figured it was something like that. I checked in 3dsMax and it has 6181vertices, then I would import the model into milkshape which made it go up to 10,000something verticies. I export to milkshape because I dont know how to put in bones, and since milkshape will automatically add 1 bone to your model for you I do it threw there. Seems like milkshape adds more vertices, and that I should just learn how to put the bone in threw 3dsMax. Anyway, my model is not really complex at all.

Ive manged to knock it down to 6131vertices by deleting some faces that you do not see. Nothing else I can delete to get rid of vertices. If the vertices limit in COD is 4096..then does that mean that this little grenade I made has more vertices than every xmodel in COD?!? thats kind of wierd..is there some kind of compression I can maybe do to get its vertices down? I havent scaled it to COD size yet..would scaling it smaller make its vertices go down?

I think you need to make it simpler, by that I mean.
Instead of the stick being round with many small faces, make it 8 sided.
The same could be done to the explosives.
Then with carefull texturing you will hardly even notice that they are eight sided instead of nicely rounded.

thanks. I tried that then checked my vertices count, which went down to 3,590. The stick part of it is not very noticable, but it is very noticable on the grenade warheads and does not look half as good as my original ones at all....is there some kind of other way to get its vertices down without altering its current look? anyway to get around the 4096 limit? why is there even a limit; does it have to do with gamestate? or am I screwd and forced to change it if I want to get it into CODUO?[banghead]

I was just browing around in the 3dsMax5 tutorial's and there was something there that reduces your face count without really damaging how your model looks. Ive gotten it down to 3090vert's. Im going to try and figure out how to add a bone into this thing and try to get it into coduo

The limit probably has more to do with framerate and performance.

I got it working into CODUO, but seem to be having another problem [cry] The viewmodel part of my weapon, in the first person view when the player is holding the grenade, it is being grabbed from the very bottom of the stick...which looks pretty weird. I tried moving the bone of the model up more on the stick, but that didnt work. Tried moving the whole model downwards on the 3dsmax grid, also didnt work.... is it a setting I have to do in my weapons GTD file when its being converted? I want my player holding the stick in the middle.

how did you reduce vertices. Is there a shortcut? I import a model on internet.
