Are you using Milkshape?
I had this same problem (or a similar one) when I was converting CoD 5 models to CoD UO a few months ago, if I remember correctly, here's how I solved it:
1. Select a bit of your model (Model (left panel) > Select > drag and draw a box around a bit of your model)
2. Add this bit to it's own group (Groups > Regroup)
3. Clone the texture you want to use (copy/paste the texture you're using, but rename it something else, for example metal@example1 and metal@example2)
4. Assign the new texture to your new group (select your new group by just double clicking it, then go to Materials > New > Select your new texture by clicking on , then press Assign)
5. Call the texture/group whatever you want by just typing it in the box then press Rename
6. Double click your new group again to unselect it
7. Repeat this how ever many times you need until the error leaves

Hello,
I've fixed it by reducing polys in Blender. Now I have new problem with rigging characters. I use Joint tool to auto-assign vertex to meshes but some time, it assign bone (TAG_blah), too. Can you help me out pls?

By the way, I'm currently on a total conversion mod for cod 1 and need helps from you. I would like to invite you to this mod development.
