Hi everyone,

Usin Cod Radiant - Made a massive map - waterfalls - lovely!
added 1 mp_spawn_point
added 1 mp_intermisson
added some more mp_spawn points all round the place
lookin good - time to compile
3pm start ........... its now 1:40am and my batchfile is still makin my desktop look ugly....compiling....
for hours now....just 9... no movement - nothin
(please hurry up)

2 weeks guys - solid mappin every night instead of playing the COD servers with my mates......man this has gotta be the last bit so i can show em what ive been doin for ages and why im not playin COD with them..

double click CODMP - yep okay..........
in CODSP i used to turn off PURE hit the " ` " key - console drops down, type in \map mp_the-cave press enter

click to start mission - great - game runs in \SP but not in CODMP

Help ! Please - my brain hurts with all this stuff

First off...
1)you need a DEATHMATCH INTERMISSION
2)You need at least one DEATHMATCH SPAWN

3) make sure that the editor 'knows' its for MP

go EDIT > MAP PROPERTIES.... there is a checkbox there...see it?

What are you using to compile? I cant imagine a compile taking that long--Unless your running a 386SX with 16Mb Ram.

There must have been errors for it to take that long (if it actually completed at all)

Go to DOWNLOADS section and get DameonX's CODUOMaker...its a nice little GUI for compiling...you can set it to pause during the compile stages to allow you to see any errors it reports.

1 more thing...are you trying to load it straight from the BSP or have you created a PK3 for it?
CODMP may not allow you to start the map if your PK3 file isnt setup correctly.

lol i was going to say a 486 come give the guy credit :)
ok here it is listen up lol no matter what gametype you set your mp game for. you have to have 3 folders in cod main.
well 2 but other one is for the .arena file yes.
an yes make sure u have either "mp dm, tdm spawn"
and "mp dm, tdm intermission" yes.

Anyways either way with dm, tdm this will work.
your codradiant mp game has to be saved as: /main/maps/mp <---- that way always.
an make sure you save as mp_mymapname in lower case always.
an in your mp_mymapname.arena file have 1 or all gametypes, defined too.
{ map "mp_mymapname" longname "mp_mymapname" gametype "dm tdm sd re bel hq"} <--- those are default gametypes far as i know :)

an this is the key not messing up things i know been there done that lmao... alwyas make a back-up folder of all map files including your .arena file !!!! <-- important ! back-up man.
Note: your codradaint is set to default save ever 5 mins im sure. but after it saves itself do your own save lol trust me.
anything can happen running codradiant been there done that.
ok :) hope I didnt miss anything sorry if i did my bad.

maps can and will take a long time to do a final compile

making a sp map is different from making a mp map...so you will need to remove ALL sp entites from your map...add the mp ones and recompile to play as an mp map

386....486....cor blimey do they still exist ?

P4 .. Intel 2.8 ... 2GIG ram fellas..... got the power.....dont worry bout that side of it ....bit of info 4 ya....

used to make my own WAD files for DOOM so understand map makin etc....mates just wanted some new levels so i said id make a few.....watched Wyatt Earps tutorial videos bout using cod Radiant etc - then made massive map.

Seems the batch file that i downloaded off net to do the compile is probably the least helpfull one i coulda downloaded. Downloaded the CODUOMaker - Horseman ....cheers - just what i was lookin for - loads of help etc - cheers will be using that one from now on.

Couldnt find the MP setting in cod radiant - prbly different version to you. I got EDIT...PREFERENCES - and theres no mention of ticking an MP box. Checked rest of menu for equivalent - but nothin i can see.

I come out of cod radiant...the run the "386" batch file ...lines listed below for you to av a look at. This batch file takes friggin ages - hours and hours .....

its called mp_the-cave.bat

cd ..\..\tools\bin
q3map ../../main/maps/mp_the-cave
q3map -vis ../../main/maps/mp_the-cave
flare -extra -sundiffusesamples 10 -dumpoptions ../../main/maps/mp_the-cave
cd ..\..\
CodSP +set g_connectpaths 2 +set dedicated 1 +devmap mp_the-cave
CodSP +set r_vc_compile 2 +devmap mp_the-cave
pause

copied that file from the net somewhere.

doesnt matter any more coz CODUOMaker is much better to use - as stated above.


Mr Snipper - 3 folders in main .....
main\maps holds my .BAT, .MAP, .BAK, .PRT, .POLY and .BSP

main\maps\mp holds .BSP after its been compiled ( i copy it from the main\maps folder )

main\mp holds my .ARENA file

and once the compile finishes i highlight the two folders in the main directpory listed above ( maps and mp ) then using winzip i zip them into a file called mp_the-cave.pk3, that file is then put into the main folder.

The map was called mp_THE-CAVE.map ( capitals ) - didnt think that it mattered but have changed all to lower case and will stay lower from now on.

as for the 5 minute saving in radiant - already lost too much stuff - knew that one - SAVE FREQUENTLY !!

So....it seems that it all points to the batch file - i sorta guessed the info that you two guys have kindly told me about...but its nice to hear if from someone else - (pat yourselves on the back guys).....im gonna go of right now and re-compile the little sucka usin CODUOMaker - ooh i cant wait

Thanx for your brilliant help guys - will come back and post the results soon as its done ( and soon as ive done the shoppin and cleaned the house up blah blah blah )

back in a flash !!

im back ...... AND IT SEEMS IN RECORD TIME ......

knew summit werent right with that batch file.....

k.....just went staight into me map ( SP ) .... ran round .... no guns ....hmm okay will put some in - thought u spawned with a weapon.

few minor problems but at least i can actually get in the map now.

started CODSP hit the "`" key....typed in \map the-cave .... click start......im in ..brilliant...

gonna go and make a few adjustments then try it in muliplayer mode ....... any help in gettin the map onto the menus etc will be gratefully apreciated - and what about LAN ? - any help there would be cool too. cheers.

Hmm good to hear ya got some stuff going now :)
as for putting stuff in menu sorry idk about that yet ):
Making maps with cod is fun eh lol always errors but u learn from them is the main thing an the more ya know the better your map becomes I know been there dont that...
Only main prob I have now is running a (Home Server)
Grrr thats hard as heck. Oh its easy getting me to run an play my map, but getting others to join its like pulling teeth without drugs lol ewwww sux!
Oh yes an never use Caps in your mapname :)

Dude I'll put it to u this way I restarted like 4 maps to get to were Im @ now hopefully it dont happen to :)

goto the Tutorial section and read up on making a PK3 file
This is good info...
this will give you the correct structure that you file needs to be in order for it to run on a server.

***take special note***
When creating the PK3 files - make sure that the *.bsp, the *.gsc, and the *.arena files have the EXACT same name.
There is more to it than that, but make sure that you do this.

In a nutshell:
As for a LAN...make sure that all the clients have the same version of your PK3 file as the server does...then start the server....have the clients join a LAN game..and VIOLA!

Oh yeah baby were on a LAN, in my map, and both of em sayin...."cant wait to play it over the internet"

cheers to all of ya - gonna go av look through the tutorial section - have been b4, but was looking for the posts that said ...."how do i make a cod map" lol

i only go there when im really in the shite, too impatient.

My MP LAN worked like a dream. Im still not sure how "everybody" gets my pk3 file - spose / assume that it downloads on your first connection to my server. would make sence.

ANother question....do i need to run my map on a dedicated server, or can i just "start new server" from the MP menu?

me and my mates use a neat porgram called XFIRE! it finds us playing games as long as we long into it, and theres a little button that you can click on called JOIN . click on it and itll take you into the same level of your mate that your joining.

Playing cod1 and cod2 and NFS MW (great game) highlights the JOIN button (tcp/ip) but when i load my map and look on another pc - the JOIN button is off - this i MUST fix !! Urgent

gotta tell ya - in responce to Horseman...and his dont forget to copy the same pk3 file....i already did .... lol .....and had two people standing next to eachother in the same map - one with water in the pool and one without - briliant

If the client has DOWNLOADS enabled, then the server will send the current map to the client...so they can connect

from what I understand, a Dedicated serve is just that..it runs the game..noone is sitting at that PC and playing.
If you want to play while sitting at the server, then No, dont run it Dedicated.

in the same map, yes, but i think they wont be able to connect to the same server...different versions of the map should give one or more clients the 'UNPURE CLIENT' error.
I suggest you look into the 'PURE settings on the server...Im sure this is where that can be altered.
