SPi writes...Quote: Models can be walked into unless they have colision around them. Colision is the clip tool. There are various types of clip tools depending on the surface you want to make collidable. For example if your surface is a metal surface, you will cover this model with clip_metal or something. For wooden surfaces clip_nosight is the one you need. Those will define the footstep sound when players walk on the model surface. I think all models are ready in your prefabs. try find map_source/prefabs/misc_models. There you will find most of the games models with clip around them. So you have to use all models as prefab. Bushes and trees usually don't need clipping. You can mess around with this and learn how it works. You can also use this to block paths or ways that you don't want your player to go through.
GL.
Thanks for such a quick response! I completely forget about the clips. I will implement this later.
About my second problem, I don't even know what it is. The pictures here show a void hole in my map, it also engulfs a part of my fence. However in radiant there is no hole present. In-game I actually fell through the hole and the skybox. Weird.
Thanks again for all the help! |

Sorry, I don't have steam or Skype but thanks anyways.
About the halftrack: the first picture shows the vehicle finally clipped and rock solid.
About the void: In the second picture I decided to compile the map again and there was almost no void/hole (part of a fence is still weird). I'm assuming this could be a compiling glitch or error since I didn't touch that patch/fence at all.
Finally, the third picture is where the level starts. Isn't it nice? Just lay on the bed waching the fire clipping through the chimney. Feels so cozy. Perhaps I might release this map during the winter?
Thanks again for all the help, until the next update! |

Just a small update: I've been going back to my prefabs and adding portals. Probably something I should've done after completing them, oh well better now than never.
About the void: I used the L map advice however that didn't solve anything. I might try deleting the patch and putting a new one.
Until the next update |

Additional update: I've fixed the void problem. Guess what I did to fix it. Seriously take a guess. --> I moved the fence 1 unit away from the sidewalk. Yeah I have no idea why that fixed it. The first picture I've posted shows the result. At first I noticed that the void only consumed the width of 3 fence posts so I decided to move those 3 posts and it corrected itself. Weird.
Some more stuff: I've added a cemetery behind the church since there was empty space. You can see it in the second picture. I think it's enough tombstones. And finally the last picture is just there for you all to enjoy. It's the same location of the picture I posted earlier in this project but now includes lights, fence, and vegetation.
Please do tell me how you think the map looks, I would like feedback. Thanks! |

Hello a small little update here, sorry for the long silence I was too busy to work on the map.
About the update: right now I'm adding minor things to my map like in the pictures attached, some telephone wires here and there. I think they're looking alright. The final picture is what the sniping position looks like as of now. Almost looking like a real forest village. Perhaps I should change the draw distance to show more trees...
Another thing, the current size of my map is 6.69MB. Is this too much? I'm not even done making the terrain. I don't know. The newvillers_geo map in the map_source folder is only 3MB. Is there a size limit for maps?
Thanks for all of your support |
