I have managed to export 3DMax Obj files into COD4 radiant, but it was an exhausting procedure. Firstly there's a face count issue, then you have to texture map and texture the model in max. then use the obj2xmodel exporter downloadable from this site. Then recreate all the textures as custom textures in Radiant using Assman. You must flip all the faces in Max before you export it to an OBJ file.
I tried because I wanted to make detailed rocks and landscapes. I also remember there was some lighting issues with these Xmodels and of course you'll need to clip the model in radiant to give it volume.
It was a while ago I did this and there was probably more issues I've forgotten.....in the end I settled for the patches ect, in Radiant.

You can use Blender (which is free) to export xmodels for COD2:

http://sites.google.com/site/blendertocod2/xmodel

Works with both static models and anims.

If you read the tutorial I linked to you will see that you can use Blender and its xmodel plugins to export as an xmodel_export file, and then use the COD2 Asset Manager to get the exported xmodel ingame and working. You can do that with static models or anims.

so its Asset Manager that "imports" into the game - not any other prgram. This is true even of Maya - Maya exports an xmodel_export file, which you then convert into a usable xmodel with Asset Manager.

Please Disregard this, it's was written while thinking of Call of Duty 1 or UO, not 2...

First, download Milkshape 3d. It can be found here (freeware, no viruses/bugs/etc.) The .obj plugin is included in that download.

Then download the Xmodel Exporter (which turns all xmodel (or xanim) files into .obj format). It can be found here. (Freeware, no viruses/bugs/etc.)

Last, download ScorpioMidget's Addons for Milkshape 3d. This allows you to import/export Cod xmodel_export files (or .xanim_export). This can be found
here. (Freeware, no viruses/bugs/etc.)

And then install all of the above. Once done, export the xmodel you want to begin with, edit it however you want, export it from Milkshape 3d as .xmodel_export (or .xanim_export), and run it through assetmanager, located in your call of duty directory at "...tools/bin/". From there, you will have to follow a tutorial on getting the model in-game. After you have saved it as a .xmodel_export (or .xanim_export), you can then import those files and change them any way you would like. Regards, Mulliger/Deadly/Uzumakibro93.

The Mikshape plugins dont work with COD2 xmodels. Different engine, different version number, higher poly count in COD2.

Aah. Disregard my last post then. Seems the only way to do it is using Blender or a more expensive program...

Regards.
