As most should know is Farcry 2 has been released. So far I am enjoying it as much if not more than Crysis. As all should know, they released there level editor which is designed to be easy too use even for newcomers.

So I sat down the other night and thought I'd give the editor a go. What a better thing to try but to map the same map I am making for COD4 MP_Flood.

As you may know. Farcry 2 editor gives you plenty of terrain control, great looking vegetation but a standard subset of buildings.

Well I managed to pretty much make my map MP_FLOOD in a matter of hours. Doesnt look exactly the same but you can see the similariltys.

Still prefer radiant editor but it is great for a play.

Heres some pics for comparison. I know which looks prettier and took far less...Considering I got so much to still do to the COD4 map to make it look complete and yet in a few hours the farcry2 map looks amazing!!!

Got a couple of images mixed up but you get the idea.

Very nice tool to use. Some awkward things and uses sometimes, though. And the very fact that you can't model your own building through the editor .... But overall many things that IW should copy for the next tools (like the skybox and the global worlspawn's settings that you don't have to setup manually).

I totally agree with everything said here, BUT.. I have to admit the thing i like about radiant is everything you see is new (apart from prefabs) and unique, you can build anything you want. I have found with farcrys editor you obviously are limited in a sence that you can only use the building they have made etc.. don't get me wrong it's a great editor but there is nothing to stop someone donig teh exact same thing again.

Also im pretty sure i read somewhere that usermaps can be opened in other editors so this technically means you publish your map, then whoever downloads it can open it straight up and edits it right? Can't find source but wouldlike some info if anyone knows

Haven't tried opening other peoples maps yet but when you first save your map, it asks you for a name and applies that to your map as a watermark. So even if someone can open and modify, it will allways have yourself as author?!

I haven't fully finished this map. Just putting in a few final details then I'm going to publish it to see what happens and if other people end up actually playing it?

Lol you can't build your own stuff with brushes? That just sucks, that's crap, I don't care how good the other stuff is - who cares if you have to set ambient settings manually.

I think I can design/build and texture a house twice as fast (in Radiant) then people using 3D editors like Studio Max.

You can utilize brushes in the FC editor. However, it's not at all a simple process and the results are not as good as with radiant. I think a combination of both systems, with more accessibility to brushes would be the best... if it were available.
