I am working on my second map. My first map always had the same "ignoring primary light without a target key" error. I ignored it and the map runs fine.

Now I have it with my second map. Again, so far it's compiling and running ok. So far.

But I'm starting to wonder what the error is and learn more on it so I can maybe not have it show up haha. Can anyone shed some light (no pun intended!) on this error and how to fix it?

Did you add lights to your map?
Did you set your worldspawns (sunlight, brightness etc)?

All primary lights need connecting to an info null, same as spotlights.

Quote:
"PRIMARY_OMNI" and "PRIMARY_SPOT", if checked, give the light higher quality lighting and dynamic shadows. Only one primary light may affect each world surface. They both require spotlight settings to control where dynamic shadows lie, but unlike normal spotlights, "PRIMARY_OMNI" lights do not get attenuated by angle from the spot direction.

It's very early in my map process so right now I have just one light at the top of my map to act as the sun.

Here is the properties (when I select the light and click N) of my light:

What am I doing wrong?

You don't need a light to act as the sun. That's what the worldspawnsettings are for. Sundirection is the point where the sun shines from. Remove the light and it will probably get rid of the error.

Understood! But what happens when I put in some interior lights for my rooms and such? Will that error reappear?

Not when you make the lights correctly. See the wiki on lighting on how it's done.
