I'm working for a weapons mod for UO. The mod works great, it's running alongside AWE without problems but after a few hours of playing with it, players start to get kicked with this error, the weird thing is the server continues running fine and it's not everyone nor are the people getting kicked being kicked at the same time. This is the error:

FS_handle for file: None Free

Does anyone have a clue what needs done to fix this? Without the weapons mod it works fine, is there something specific in the mod I need to look into?

I've never even heard of the error until now, but the best reference to it that I could find is here: http://www.iwnation.com/Forums/index.php?showtopic=11716&st=0&%23entry101893

It does look like a mod can be the cause, but the how and why are not clear to me. This is just a wild guess, but I'd suggest you try two things: (1) change your server.cfg's "seta sv_wwwDlDisconnected" setting - valid values are either "1" or "0" - and (2) try removing a couple of maps from your server.

Beyond that, I have no idea. Good luck.

Thank you for the reply.

I have found that post as well and we are only running 3 custom maps at the moment as well as AWE and the mod I made. We also have the sv_wwwDlDisconnected turned on like the post suggested.

I appreciate you looking into it for me though.

Anyone else have an idea?

Hate to bump this but I'm still looking for an answer and don't know where to start. Has anyone else ever had this problem? If so how did you fix it?

Could it possibly be a third alt function on a weapon or is it more likely something else like a sound causing the problem?

maybe the players have too many mod/map pk3s in there main folder?

i dont think it would be sounds or weapon files from ur mod

Thanks for the idea but that can't be it. I only had 4 other maps in my main at the time and the problem was fixed once we removed the mod from the server.

I'm thinking it has to be something in the mod but I have no clue where to start looking.

The mod was taken off the server and it's huge, (would take over 40 mins to upload it somewhere.)

Most of it is cut and pasted from other mods, I just edited the weapon files and such. When I tried taking out un needed sounds I got an error. I'm assuming it had something to do with a file used to make the sounds work (which I have no knowledge of) in the game because it says the files were missing or had a bad format. In place of removing them I just deleted them via notepad keeping just the filename thinking it would just be a blank sound file taking up less room.

What I'm wondering is if by erasing the files in that way I somehow messed up the mod because it's in the wrong format or something. I'm wondering if the game is trying to use the sounds and because it's in the wrong format it kicks the player out or something.

Could that be what FS_handle for file: None Free means?

(Killer, I appreciate the offer to look the mod over)

People more experienced in programming than myself may be able to give a more definitive answer (where are you folks?). I seem to recall there being limits on the number of files that can be open at any one time. Each open file has a handle. It seems probable that your mish mash mod is opening files, and then not closing them. Eventually there are no handles left. Possibly it is due to the missing sound files. I just don't know enough about programming to be sure. Perhaps a handle is allocated when an attempt to open the erroneous file is made, and not deallocated when the attempt fails?

Just how big is this darn thing?

im guessing the mods about 50mb-100mb

anyway, the sound files are probably causing the problem, as u said u were replacing with notepad with the same file name... not good :o
if you go to the folder called soundaliases in ur mod and open the .csv(s) files with notepad or excel, search for the sound files you dont want and delete that line and save, and delete the unwanted sounds
and thats it [cool]
hopfully...
