I finished watching foyleman's tutorial, and the map compiles and I am able to play it, but how do I host it so one or two other people can connect to my server? If I go to the multiplayer menu and host a server, my map does not show up as an option to select it in the rotation (This is a map similar to the tutorial with one Deathmatch spawnpoint).

Did you include a arena file in your iwd?

Also, be sure that your iwd file is in your main folder.

Toxic is right, unless you have an arena file in there, it will not show up as an option.

If it's not uber small, I'm talking under 1 mb, you might want to send the map to your friends through an instant messanger or a sharing website because it willl take them forever to download from you at about 10 kb a second (that's useually being generous if it isn't redirected somewhere.)

or you can set pure to no and drop down your console and put "map mp_yourmap" press enter this will also start your map without the arena file

Ok, I added a folder in main called mp and created a .arena file following the site's instructions, so now I see my map in the list, but when I click on start to host the map, it brings up the cod2 console to start the game, but I keep seeing the following lines:
Hitch warning: 829 msec frame time
Hitch warning: 1153 msec frame time
Sending heartbeat to cod2master.activision.com
Sending heartbeat to cod2master.activision.com

and as I type this, it has taken over 10 minutes and the server has not started. I believe it was also taking this long for an existing map, so what could be the problem?

Does the same thing happen when you start a stock map?
If not, post your compile log... most likely something went wrong in there.

rofl - your server is running!

you are running a dedicated server - which means it is a server only - not a play and host server

if you want others to join - and you want to play witht them on the same box, then you have to not run a dedicated server

ok.. I'm going to sleep now.. I'm obviously too drunk and have to get up in 3 hours to start work...
