OK 1st off, I understand the principle behind S&D and the triggers and models etc. The problem I am encountering is the scripting. I have used Wyatts script that is included in his tutorial and am getting no where. I have managed to make the objective appear in compass and can set a bomb but it never explodes. I have tried this at least 20 times deleting and redoing the target point, values, models etc..
HELP DAMNIT!!!!!

Check your trigger_lookat

Make sure both have the targetnames correct. And both are selected then made into a trigger_lookat. If not sure, remake them, pretty quick.

If you see the bombs, and once they are set if you can hear and see the bomb being set, then the trigger_lookat is the area to investigate. From my experience and goof ups :P

Also, look for another trigger_lookat . I have doone it by accident, and forgot to delete an old one. So, make sure there is only one.

I had a lot of trouble getting S&D to work as well. I had so much trouble getting it to work that I decided to leave it out of all future maps I make unless I'm asked to add it in.

Let's see if I can remember right...

In addition to Wyatt's tutorial, look at fjardon's SD tutorial

The point I would add on to his is...

When you create your two trigger multis (one with the trigger texture, and the other with the origin texture), make sure you have them both selected simultaneously when you make them trigger multiples. They have to be both selected at the same time for Radiant to group them together. I couldn't get S&D working on one of my maps until I did this.

I can't find Caskou's S&D tutorial anymore... he had a tutorial on how to make S&D maps that wouldn't crash Linux servers (turns out that if S&D is improperly done, it can/will crash Linux boxes).

However, look at Ravir's reply to fjordan's tutorial. He points out the necessity of creating those bombcams and that script origin for spectators. You need both of those things so that it won't crash Linux systems.

Oops, he makes the point of selecting both brushes as well (forgot about his edit section). Makes my point redundant lol

Another thing you might want to do is find a couple of map files where mappers have done S&D. Look at the way they set things up, because some mappers do things slightly differently. Dang I wish I could find Caskou's tutorial, cause he had a sample S&D map that was very nice.

Thanks Wyatt, Ill take a gander at the trigger_lookat and see, its possible I have more than one of them in place. The trigger_lookat is independant of the target area is it not? I thought it just had a set of values and didnt require any special factors that relate to the target areas? Yes / No?

They relate to the bomb areas. When you designate the trigger_multi as gameobjectname BOMBZONE. That is 1 of three pieces the engine needs for a SD. The 2nd one is the other bombzone, and finally the trigger_lookat ties them together. The trigger_Lookat moves to the bombzone that was set (not physically).

A good method of deduction on SD maps.

1. If you can see the A and B points, the origins are working for both.
2. If you can only see 1 of the 2, then the one you cant see has a problem.
3. If you set the bomb and the compass shows a star at 0,0,0. Then the trigger_lookat is messed up. Or cant defuse, then the values are bad for 1, both or all 3 items.
