Yeah, we've been pretty impressed here with what he has done to that old q1 engine.  The only thing that's really holding him back is the use of all of the q1 textures, as they are such low quality (as compared to today's standards).

ya, it will be nice to see what it looks like of the model replacement models work.  He will probably add support for loading q3 maps, and that could look interesting.

Also, thanks for the fixes you guys sent to id for the latest point release.

Yeah, I saw that the other day and was really impressed.

Like rick said, the only thing that makes the screenshots look odd is the really low texture detail, if he made a map with hi res textures I bet it would look amazing.

actually, the Tenebrea site has a link to the E1M1 retexture project, and they have a pak file with alot of those textures 'redone'.

goto http://switch.to/qe1m1textures and get an E1M1 facelift!

If I remember it correctly, it wasn't simply an engine modification. They had to take the existing maps and MAKE them work, one by one. Seems somewhat impractical to me, but I could be wrong on this.

:s32: tenebrae is rather fun, but it honestly feels like more of a hack than anything, judging how its progressed from version to version. still a good time though I suppose -- hopefully they can nail some of those rampant rendering bugs sometime soon!

Tenebrae isn't really a hack. They are just sort of working backwards on the technology scale. For example, they put in the volumetric shadows, per-pixel lighting and bumpmapping in before they added interpolation with the animation. Now they are reworking the textures and models. And they don't need to redo all the maps, but I would suggest it. The number of lights doesn't matter when it's just gonna be compiled lightmaps, but with realtime lighting, it needs to be toned down. Maybe that's what tenebrae did with e1m1?
