My second map I am working on.

Not really based on historical facts but I liked the sound of Al Jawf, Libya [casanova]

This map is set in a desert (you guessed it) scenery. I'm using prefabs that I customize to get a new feel to already existing buildings. (and I skip a lot of work doing so)(I know ... not very creative).

A small desert town with an oasis nearby and a small tentcamp. A large cliff is overviewing the map (although I think I'll remove it).

screenies:

an overview of the small town, more buildings and details to be added. The palace in the background will be the german's base

gametypes: CTF (definitely), HQ, DM, TDM

Leave comment please, it's useful ! [tongue]

Looks good so far. Honestly, I'd seriously consider leaving the cliff in, I don't remember any new custom desert maps that have one. Will it be accessible though?

Also, as you add more details, consider using the cliff edge as part of the tactics of the map......integrate it somehow. Having a cliff with just a sand brush meeting it is rather lame (sorry, no offense). It would be better to throw in some prefab rock models, some trees, maybe some crates around the tent camp. It'll look more real, plus it will factor into the gameplay. Such a long open area without cover is bad for gameplay. Cluster the models, don't just drop them in wherever. Make it have a purpose and look more real, and that's what will make your map good or great, instead of just like any other desert map ;)

Good luck. Post more screenies as you progress.

Thanks Skyguy ... I shall keep those wises words in mind. As for the cliffs: i'll make my own with some kind of walkings on them ([sniper]) and a few tunnels.

I've been mapping[cool] a bit today ... i've finished a radio center. new screenies:

anyone seen the movie 2001:a space odyssey? i noticed this after compiling.

LOL. No Dave, you can't do that. LOL

Looking good. Is that well IN the water though? Couldn't tell from the screenie. Just thinking that a well wouldn't be beside a pond of water, that's all LOL. The point of the well is because there's no water around to begin with.

I'm I a picky bastage or what? Seriously man, good stuff. I'm not criticizing, I'm merely pointing out some things that might be asked later. I know myself, I'd hate to see things AFTER I've done the work, I'd rather know and save myself the hassle and time.

Good luck with the tunnels, try not to make em look "boxy" and square[thumbs_up]

That black hole is something I had too. Make a block to cover it, give it your skybox texture, make sure it's snapped to the actual skybox or you'll get a leak error while compiling.

As suggested: a walking board

I have a little scaling problem with it: it's too small so I have to redo everything. [banghead] but you get the picture

other things I worked on: Added new customized prefab, added some kind of market in the center of the town, replaced the well to center of town [wink] (not seen in screenies), re-textured the palace ...

yours sincerely [wave]

You shouldn't have to redo it. Unless I'm mistaken you can simply scale it up and then just re-CAP (or natural) the texture. BOOM, done!
