How can i increase my uploads speed to people downloading a map from me thay they havent got, i dont seem to make any difference if i'm on LAN or INTERNET it only uploads at 20k, were other servers i connect to upload a map to me at 250k plus, is this something i can alter or is it fixed.

do those people who download your map connect to you through LAN or the internet? (Are they in your house or not?)

If they're not in your house, they connect through the internet, in which case probably your maximum upload speed is 20k.

And the fact that you can download maps from other servers at 250k, means your download speed is 250k, or the servers max upload speed is 250k.

i have 3 other pc's connected on the network and they all download from me at 20k, my max upload to the net is 60k, but it only uploads a map on lan or net at 20k, surely my transfer rate across the lan would be high like coping file speed and i should be able to upload to the net at 60k

Isn't there a max upload cvar in your server.cgf somewhere?

i'm not sure to be honest and wouldent know how to look for that and change it, a bit of a newbie answer i admit but hey we all have to start somewhere ay.

I had the same issue. Maybe I took a long way around, but I got rapid map downloads over LAN like this.

I installed a web server (Xerver - freebie), and set it up so that a directory containing all the maps was accessible thru the web server.
I enabled www download feature in the uoconfig_mp.cfg (check these forums).

Voila! extremely fast map downloads over LAN

Downloading direct from the server is slowwwwww.

We host the maps online, then put the following in the config to direct the player there instead, much quicker.

// Download Settings
set sv_allowDownload "1" // Allow clients to download pk3's
set sv_wwwDownload "1" // Turns on http redirect for faster downloading
set sv_wwwBaseURL "http://www.yoursite.com" // Link to webspace
set sv_wwwDlDisconnected "1" // Stops downloaders taking server slots


You need to make sure you put the maps in a "main folder" so the actual path to the maps is really www.yoursite.com/main/whatever.pk3

The point I was trying to make above is you CAN use the http redirect over a LAN, so long as you run a web server as well. This allows very fast map downloads, with the maps hosted locally.
