ok so my problem is this, i'm trying to make my screenshot for when i load the level to first off convert to a .dds and the only way i cant seem to do that is if the life is already a size of 1024 x 1024, but i have a specific picture that i would like to use, and when i go to go save as .dds the save button is grey. So, what i am asking is why is this button grey? and why can i not make the image i want a .dds file, i got some error saying it was not a power of 2? wasnt quite sure exactly what that meant.

thanks

make sure the layer is not set to background and make sure you have the DDS plug-in for photoshop.

Just some suggestions

images for ingame have to have a width and height of a power of 2

powers of 2 are:

1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096 ...

( 2n, e.g. 27 = 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 = 128 )

valid dimensions for an image would be e.g. 256x512 or 1024x1024

note: you shouldn't use dimensions higher than 4096 as not all graphics cards support such high texture resolutions

how do i make the picture that i want to use so that it isnt the back ground? beacause i think that's what the problem is, when i open the photo it says layer: background with a little lock symbol next to it. could this possibly be my problem?

well, you have to know, that the final 1024x1024 sized picture is distorted, it is basically made of an 1280x1024 screenshot, which width is sized down to 1024.

i don't think your problem is related to background issues, according to my previous experiences with dds files, it doesn't matter if you are saving an image with backround or only layers. the problem that save option is greyed out is that maybe you are in the middle of an operation, like resizing, replacing, rotating images, whatever.

my advice would be, that open up an original levelshot from the pak1.pk3, place your picture onto it, and arrange it the way you want to, then flatten layers and save it DXT1 with no alpha.

alternatively you can save it as a jpg as well, it will work, i've seen it with the map d-day+7, just take care of the 1024x1024 or 512x512 dimension, and 4:3 to 3:3 distortion dimensions

that's great news! however, if you're still experiencing problems, post the image you want to use as the levelshot, and i'll be more than happy to convert it to the right format.

If you figured it out post what you did so others that may have the same issue can resolve it as well.
