When you select "run selected map" in compile tools it will not show your textures. It will just show the textures being white. You will have to make an IWD file with the image files (IWI) and the materials for those textures. When you get your FF files for your map, make a new folder in "usermaps" folder and name it the same as your map. Put your FF files in the new folder you created. Then put the IWD file in the ModernWarfare folder under Mods.

When you do that, you will have to run your map in a local server while running a mod (just select a mod from your main COD4 screen like ModerWarfare. It will restart COD4, then hit start server. Load a stock map and type in console /map mp_mapname and hit enter it will load your map.

Easy bro, relax.

First make a new folder on you desktop. name it "images." Put your IWI files in the the images folder. While in the images folder create a new folder called "materials." Put all your materials files in there. You will find them in your raw>marterials folder. Now close the folders. Right click on the folder and click "send to.." and click "compressed (zipped) folder. Now it should be zipped. Right click again and rename it to "mp_yourmapname.iwd". It will ask you if you are sure, click yes. It should change the icon and say it is an IWD file.

Hi, still working on my first map, been working on it on/off for about ½ a year now. I'm close to the finish line, but have the "white custom texture problem" when i started making the map I did manage to make some working custom textures. They work when I play ModWarfare mod.

Working textures in radiant:

painting1
painting2
painting3

locations with iwi, iwd and FF files:

..\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\Mods\ModWarfare\paintings.iwd
..\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\raw\images\paintings.iwd

..\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\raw\images\greypainting.iwi
..\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\raw\images\greypaintinglittle.iwi
..\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\raw\images\redpainting.iwi

..\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\zone\english\mp_hih02rev17.ff

My iwd structure:

paintings.iwd\images\ greypainting.iwi
paintings.iwd\images\ greypaintinglittle.iwi
paintings.iwd\images\ redpainting.iwi

Now, I want to add some more custom textures, but can’t seem to remember how I did it. And all this folder back and forth is confusing. I can see the new custom textures I just made in Radiant and use them on brushes, just like the old ones I made way back.

1.
I’ve tried opening the iwd files and put my new custom texture in with the old ones. But that give me this error “iwd sum/name mismatch”.

2.
That bit I quoted from CoDLiNK is hard to understand. I don’t have a “usermap” folder anywhere do I need one ? If so, why do my old textures work without one ?.

3.
I don’t understand how my map knows which IWD files it’s supposed to use, could somebody explain that ?

I’ve put number above my questions and problems, it makes it easier for me to know what you question you are answering ;)

Thanks a lot for all the help on this site, without it I would never been able to start mapping :D

3. CoD4 loads all *.iwd from main folder + iwds found in fs_game path.

2. The custom textures need to be zip'd with their respective folder. eg:
you have some iwi files in
Code:

./raw/images

you will need to add the folder and the iwi file into the zip (iwd) file. Do this with all the files you have output'd from thw asset manager.

usermaps folder is a folder the game use to stock custom maps: one per map. So that's where the .ff files and their related .iwd goes.

hope this helps.

Thanks alot :D

Something works :D I can see my textures now.

still don't under stand the usermaps thing heh.

I did this to make it work.

made a iwd file with my iwi files in the root, and a folder named images. In the images folder i allso put my iwi files.

then I copied the iwd file in to my root modwarfare folder
..\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\Mods\ModWarfare\images.iwd

and that did it for me.

But I don't have any folder with my iwd and FF files together.

If i understand you right. then my usermaps folder is this folder:

..\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\zone\english

cause thats where my FF files is ?

heh sorry, think i'm being a bit slow here :P

but I made it work and thanks again :D
