Hi Guys, I'm hoping this is a common problem...

I have just gone through the video tutorial on the site here "CoD4_101" where you make the basic room, add some lights and spawn points and test it.

It works just fine for the single player version of the map.

However, the MP version will not launch... The game window pops up, but it stays black and never goes to a loading screen or anything. I end up having to close it through the task manager.

I thought it was something I did wrong, but I've triple checked everything and have even started over completely once to the same result.

I'm fairly certain its not a mistake on my end now because none of the provided MP maps will launch either.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that I have the AWE4 mod DLed and some custom maps.. would these cause conflicts? I've tried dumping them into temp folders to quarantine them, but it hasn't helped.

I'm running the game on XP and I have the 1.5 patch and the 1.1 version of the tools. All my drivers are up to date, and I don't have any problems playing the game.

Can anyone shine some light on this for me? Thanks!

Maybe you have some rogue IWD's in main (without pure), or fastfiles in zone\english. Try moving out stuff that the mod tools put there, specifically mp_tool, sp_tool, and the bin folder. Are you running any mods whilst doing this? When you say provided MP maps, do you mean the maps that you can compile, or the ones you get with Cod4?

Have you modified the launch shortcut, or tried launching the exe directly? I assume you've done the latter.

Your last resort is to reinstall Cod4.

I'm not (intentionally) running any mods while trying to test MP maps... and the "provided MP maps" I ment were the ones that show up in that list when you install the tools (MP_Backlot & MP_Test)

All my shortcuts and exes should be default, I haven't fiddled with them at all. I checked the main folder and its just the standard .IWDs as far as I can tell... theres some "localized_english" ones also, but nothing outside of that.

I hope I can avoid a reinstall, but if that what it takes then so be it. I'll try moving those files around tonight after work. Any other ideas?

turn on console if disabled, open it: [Shift] + [~]
if it shows up, make a screenshot (type /screenshotJpeg) of script runtime errors or whatever you can find in console that looks like a real error (ignore warnings)

The console won't open because the game never really launches... the game window opens but it never gets to a loading screen and doesn't respond at all... the task managers says "not responding" and the cursor is an hourglass.

I'll make sure I've got that box checked and try again tonight asap however... but unless feedback gets printed in the command window I don't think I'll get any.

Send me or post you console.log and ill take a look.

when you say it crashes (the black screen), it does that when you start up mp and then type \map mp_whatever in console?

Its giving me the locked black screen when I try to "Run Selected Level" out of the compiler tools, like in the video tutorial.

I'll post up that log when I get home from work. (assuming I can even get it to a point where it spits out a log) I'll try launching the multiplayer component first and loading the map that way... I've only tried to launch it from the compiler tools panel previously.

Well, I just installed the game & tools on my machine here at work and there was no problems, so it looks like I'll either have to find the rouge files on my home machine or I'll have to do a reinstall.
