There are many threads in this forum that explain numerous ways how to create .iwd's, .arena files, and how to basically compile your map into distributable form when you are finished creating it.

I, a map maker in Call of Duty 4 have finished my map and have spent the last week checking infinityward.com and this website's forum for information on how to create iwd's and compile it all together so it WORKS. There is ONE so called "tutorial" on infinityward's website. This tutorial does not describe the process and it looks like it was written by a child. Modsonline.com has numerous posts on methods on how to create iwd's and compile your map for distribution.

The problem is that none of them work for almost everyone. There should be one sure-fire method to creating an IWD file, where to place the IWD file and the FF files when you download the file from the web, how to compile the IWD and FF files into a proper .zip file that works, etc. The problem is that there are many, many, many different ways described in this forum on how to do that. I believe that all these ways are due to guessing or pure stupidity and is getting everyone confused.

There should be one way and only one way to create these files, compile them properly, and where to respectively place them. This thread will hopefully get the correct input by professional map makers and compilers and not the common map making noobie.

Only post your input on how to do a procedure if you are 100% SURE that your method is the correct method and "Will work for everyone who follows your instructions to the last punctuation mark". Make your instructions DESCRIPTIVE. Do not use abbreviations unless you are saying file extensions. Make these posts as clear as possible to anyone who reads them!

Sorry for my rant, but I truly believe that this issue needs to be dealt with once and for all.

I understand your frustration, but I would like to stress this point:

These tools have only been out for maybe a month now, no one is an expert and everyone is trying to fix problems, for now you are going to see a lot of posts that do things many different ways. Give it some time and it will start to become consistent and helpful.

It would be nice to see some helpful hints from the people who used these tools in the creation of the game, but they are busy people as well as everyone else. We are just going to have to make due with the make/test/remake method for now until the bugs are worked out.

hehe u can get any info from this website but trust me not this one. its an ancient secret which no one wants to talk about....if they do the modgod is gonna take their/our modding power from us. u have to do a pilgrimage to modaland. if u wanna achieve this u also need some extreme meditation and will. u have to do stuff that rocky does in the movie to prepare himself. u might think i'm being lame but u'll see soon. btw to boost up this whole process u can listen to fort minor. the end is near my friend..."they" r calling me....
