MODSonline.com and Typhoon Servers is announcing a Call of Duty Series mapping and modding contest. Make a map or any other modification for any Call of Duty game and submit it to win. You will be judged on the over-all submission based on completeness (of what we think was your goal if it appears incomplete), difficulty, overall appearance (does it look good), and playability (is it fun).

This contest is wide open to submissions of all kinds. Some possible examples of submission are:

  • single or multi-player maps
  • weapon mods
  • player skins
  • custom sound replacements
  • HUD replacement
  • models and animations
  • scripting
  • and the list can go on.

One important rule is that this cannot have been a publicly released project until after the contest. This means if you already made a custom map or modification and released it to the public, you cannot resubmit it. This must be a new and original piece of work.

(I'll get to the prizes in just a second)

Submissions must be made by the end of day, June 24th EST. That is 6 weeks for you to create your piece. So this means you should start work right now!
This deadline is subject to extension if I get enough requests for one (I realize 6 weeks isn't long, but it should be long enough to at least come near completion and everyone has an equal chance).

Now for the prizes. In past competitions such as this we have found that there are not a lot of participants. This is also why we are making sure not to limit the submissions... we want more contestants to enter. So, assuming that we again don't have many submissions (about 10 is what we are guestimating, however more submissions might encourage us to add prizes), there will be just one grand prize. One great grand prize brought to us by the kind folks over at Typhoon Servers.

  • A 32 man CoD game server (any available version of CoD)
You and your friends can play whatever maps and mods you put on this public or private server. You run the server therefore you control what happens.
  • High-speed redirects
This means your custom game content can be quickly and easily downloaded by anyone joining the server who does not already have this custom content installed on their computer. They won't have to wait an hour to download it from the game server itself (hence "high-speed")
  • 2Gb of webspace with 100Gb bandwidth per month.
This is a complete web server. You can create your own custom website with Post/PHP Nuke because it will run HTML, PHP, MySQL, etc.
  • Email boxes and Urchin stats with your webserver
  • As a bonus, Typhoon Servers also threw in a 32 man Teamspeak Server
You and your friends can chat and coordinate your attacks during those heated CoD battles
  • All of this will be free for 60 days.
After 60 days, you can choose to continue the services without interruption for the standard costs. You will be bound by the terms of service over at Typhoon Servers.

Come-on... look at that prize package. You know you want it.

I'll get an official contest page up shortly with submission information. In the mean time, it's your mission to start working on your submission. You'll find plenty of help in the forums. Now head out!

You got it. ALL versions of Call of Duty. Heck, if you can figure out how to mod the console versions, go ahead and submit that too. [rocking]

No public releases at all please. However you are welcome to test it with your friends. The difference is that one is available for anyone do download and play while the other is specifically handed out to someone for testing purposes. So basically, no public links on websites to download the work.

Thought I better check before starting out, would re-creating a map from another game (not a different fps) be ok?

But then again there's always the chance that by the time its done it will look nothing like the original and be a completely new design hehe

That would be alright. Just be sure not to step on any ownership rights (copyrights trademarks or what have you). So, don't steal anything, but I see no problem with recreating.
