I've been talking to James Monroe (one of the main programmers at Ravensoft) about the possibility of releasing the engine code for all of Raven's Q3 based titles (I mainly want to get my mits on the EF source code). Unofficially, he told me that Ravensoft probably won't have any problem with releasing the source code, however before they can do that, permission must be secured from any other companies that may have been involved in license agreements during development (ie Paramount for Elite Force, and LucasArts for the Jedi Knight series etc.) He told me that he's forwarded the request up the ranks at Ravensoft, and hopefully with the completion of Raven's latest titles, they may have some time now to consider it. I'm not too sure how kind LucasArts are, but at the moment, all we can really do is wait and see. Rest assured, at least the wheels have been set in motion. -TiM |

I heard back about the status of Elite Force... it turns out Activision had dismissed the concept quite a while ago and didn't have any plans to the contrary. At that time, I tried to help instigate a movement for people to contact Activision (since apparently they're more willing to listen if more people show they're interested), but I think that fizzled out lol. I was told before that a request for all the Raven games off the Q3 engine to be released was made, so I'm guessing this might indicate that JKA was dismissed as well, but I can't say for certain. It's probable that Activision can't be bothered to deal with any games that might involve external license agreements ( Star Trek for EF, Star Wars for JK ), so that still leaves me wondering about SoF2... But I have to say... at the moment, it's not looking promising... -TiM |
