Some hints on building your own terrain:

It has been said that there is not terrain import option and that easygen can't read the textures from CoD, but there is another built-in option to create your terrain.

• create a large brush that will be used as your terrain
• turn it into a terrain patch mesh from the Patch menu using at least 15 divisions
• to get the most out of your patch mesh, you may have to stitch several of them together.
• hit they Y key to bring up the mesh editor
• to adjust the terrain, use the 3d window while holding down the alt key

A nicely detailed version of this will be in the new tutorials section.

I read that easygen does not see the textures from CoD so it couldn't be used. I haven't tried myself.

I did hear somewhere that Terragen might work. Haven't used it or tried it.

I created a simple terrain mesh. Moved the vertices around to make it lumpy. In the editor the texture has disapeared. When I run the map the terrain is there.

You can use Easygen, take the textures you wan tand make them into .jpg's and create a folder textures/yourtextures and put your textures in it. Then in Easygen, add that texture folder and use them. I dinked a bit but hadn't got around to using a heightmap for it.

The terrain tutorial is really good. The terrain is simple to make/paint. But and that is a big work. I made a small bit of terrain in a trench and got a buffer overrun error when I compiled the map. So something is there the editor did not like or maybe the compiler did not like. What I did was make the simple terrain mesh in the trench bottom and the brush like shrunk one small grid on the side. I stretched it back out to fit the trench. That could have been the problem.
