I would like to make a completly new skin (not only with new textures also with a new character modell) and i would like to know which 3D programm would be the best for this work.

You need MAYA 6.0 (MUST BE 6.0) to work with the exporter + bones.

Downloading a pirated copy of Maya is illegal. Asking for links to torrent sites is against the rules of this site and can lead to you being banned.

Save up like the rest of us for a legitimate copy of Maya, and if you cant do that, then go without. Dont be tempted and turn into a criminal just because you want to make a mod.

I wasn't speaking of a pirated copy of Maya, I was asking for a trial version, because I didn't find the trial version of the verison 6.0, only of the newest.

You wont be able to export xmodels from the trial version. It doesnt work.

The problem is that many of them are very old, and a lot of the images no longer survive.

There are lots of sites around the web that have tuts for Maya etc. One of the biggest, or at least it used to be, was 3DBuzz. Take a look at the site and if you're serious about making the new character etc then take the time to learn as the site has loads of help if you require it.
