this is deff. a noob question but what can i do.....

i looked at the tutorial on building a ladder and i made a brush...and i made a brush with the ladder tool, i made the wood brush one block bigger on each side for the handles. and the ladder bush for the inside...which i ssupposed to creat the steps right?!?!....

dose the brush you make the ladder out of haft to be wood, maybe a decal??

Yep you just create your ladder like a normal ladder looks, then cover it (slightly protruding) with the ladder texture brush

oh so you haft to cut out your ladder by hand...but i tried using my board with the ladder tool on it and it worked...just dosent look like a ladder..hah

Correct me if I am wrong but if it's a brush, you would just put a ladder brush in front of it. If it is a model, you cover it entirely with the ladder texture.

Both the ladders in your pic will work, the one on the left will allow someone to climb the side or back of the ladder. I usually do mine like the one on the right. Any thickness will work. I usually make mine 2 units because i find it easy enough to work with and doesnt hold the player out from the actual ladder. If the ladder texture was too thick, it would look like the player is climbing space in front of the ladder. The only requirement is that the ladder be in front of the brush by at least a unit or you may find problem with falling off ladder. In creating a ladder for a manhole, i made the curved parts of the manhole with non collision brushes so that the manhole was like a square hole. I then used a terrain brush in a curve for the ladder texture. Lots of possibilities, just experiment and see what you like or what will solve your problem. There is a mp_test map that came with radiant. Open it and add your ladder. Compile and try it out.
