Newb here trying to get a handle on how to approach starting my map, I would like to first setup terrain with roads and over all layout before i add buildings, which brings me to size. I would like to make it a little bigger if possible than the stock maps shipped with cod4 because they seem way to small for bigger servers.

*Also i want to have a tunnel system and have not a clue exactly how to accomplish this... so any help would be great.

What kind of map are you thinking of? "Normal" mp or sniper?
If you have a look in radiant there is the map file of mp_backlot in. There you can see how big it is in radiant and how IW did a lot of things.

If you are new to radiant, even have a look in the tutorials for COD, COD UO and COD2, a lot of things are the same and explained only there. Have a look at the getting started video, best to get your first "map" run and it helps you alot of understanding how this '**"ยง buggy radiant works. If you know the bugs once it is funny.

uhh yea i do, whats your point? I looked and searched it before posting.

Thnx {MASS}sgt, looking for a normal type map, just wanted to know how far i could push the size, i like 38 man + servers to play but it just seems that the stock maps where not made for bigger than 24 ppl. I'll re-check the cod2 and older forums, I just thought that cod4 would be different as far as map size went.

Most of it is similar, if you search here or on the IW Wiki for gameplay standards you get all the sizes for roads, doors, windows etc.

The size, mmh, for normal tdm for up to 32ppl I would go for not more then 1.5 the size of the stock maps then.

I've been setting up a mp map also, and want it to be slightly larger than an average stock map. What I did was bring in a car and a soldier model to have a basis of scale. I then built my road around 2 cars side by side to get a good idea of how wide it should be. From there I eyeballed the length, but used the grid. I then setup the sidewalk based off that and the soldier.
