If you take a look in the downloads section, you'll notice that foyleman has started the mapping video tutorials section for the game Crysis. The demo was released this past weekend. With the demo came the editor, Sandbox 2. That means it's time to start mapping. A beginner video tutorial is available in two vido sizes in the downloads section. It's very beginner in order to get you installed and familiar with the new editor. With it you will learn to install Sandbox 2, move around in the map that comes with the demo and make a simple map of your own and quickly play it. Small (320x240) Large (720x567) |

I can barely run the game on medium detail but running real time in the editor runs smooth.
I may pick up a copy of the game just to make maps, the gameplay of Crysis is really dull when you stand back and take a good look at it.
I haven't played the beta so I don't know how MP is, so I guess I'll make maps for that.
I will definitely watch your Crysis videos if you make more Foyleman.
Thank you ahead of time for taking the time to make the videos, I find them to be really informative and effective. And you have a nice voice to listen to, should consider becoming a college professor!

I took a crack at the editor, all this achieved within 1-2 hours of fooling around.
(I figured out some other neat little things in editor, incase you were thinking I just wasted 2 hours of my life)
My master piece.
Not beautiful, but it's a start.
I've no clue how to change the perspective view cull distance, if you could go over that in the next video that'd be great Foyleman, as I'm sure others will want to know how too.
Also, how to blend terrain textures. I can't figure that out... I thought it would be the same as in UE2 but it's not as easy it seems.

Nah, Foyleman just loaded up textures (not sure if this is the right word) "wrong" [according to cryEngine2 documentation].
*You just need to make a new texture layer, name it, then unclick it and reclick again so you can access the Static box.
*Don't change the Layer ID, big no-no that may cause errors, editor will automatically change it.
*Then click Edit Surface Type, make a new Surface Type, rename it (easy organization if you rename it to the name of the texture layer).
*Select Material Editorr. Go to Materials>Terrain, pick one. Close window.
*Click Pick Selected, then Ok (Surface Type window will close).
*Then in Static box on the drop down menu, select the Surface Type you just made.
*Texture your terrain.
I did some more vegetation. I'm still having the problem where these leaves don't get drawn in the editor (in Editor Mode) unless I'm right in front it zoomed in. There has to be a way to enlarge perspective culling so we can always see small stuff like that from a decent distance...
