Here's the deal, I'd like to create a new gametype called "Swamp Wars". Seeing as how I'm from the bayou area of Louisiana, I've got lots of inspiration to create swamp-like maps. I was wondering if there was any way to create green, murky water that has a visibility range of about 3 feet or less? Also, I'd like to know if I could get sunshine shining through trees. And one last thing, are there any cypress tree models? I doubt there are, but if some one could create one for me I'd be willing to pay them for their work. I plan on making this a large-scale operation with a website, forums, etc. Any and all help is very appreciated. If you'd also like to become a staff member for the project, and you have a decent amount of mapping and/or modding experience, please PM me or contact me via Xfire or AIM.

Any one?

Or could some one at least tell me how to create my own trees? I really feel good about this project if I could just get it off the ground and start rolling with it. I would also need a couple of assistant mappers / modders for the smaller things I don't have time for.

If you want to dig into modeling for COD2 (for making your trees), you are in luck, as a German programmer just released an XModel for COD2 conversion program.

It will take many 3D model program's output and convert to COD2 (Maya 6) format. You can use Milkshape 3D, 3DS Max, or Lightray 3D to create your model, and then use the conversion program to create the XModel format for COD2.

His site is here:

http://cod2.wesoco.de

As far as the water question goes, there is a way to simulate reflective dirty trench water, but it may not look all that swamp like. There is a tutorial on how to do this water trick in the COD2 tutorials somewhere at modsonline.

I am in the middle of making a COD2 map right now, but I may have some time after that to figure out the Xmodel creation process.

water texture I can help you with. there is a sewer water texture in CoD that I could e-mail to you, or anyone that has CoD1. but they would also need to send the WATER.SHADER file.

as for clarity changing, I can also help with that. here's a script that can be used as a shader file:
Code:

textures/CUSTOM/water@water1
{
qer_editorimage textures/qer_water1.jpeg
qer_trans .7
surfaceparm water
surfaceparm trans
{
map textures/water1.jpeg
tcGen environment
rgbGen exactVertex
alphaGen const .7
blendFunc blend
}
}

that script hasn't been tested but should work. for making moving water you can just make an animation with a paint program and save the animation as a JPEG titled water1. then copy the first frame and make it a regular image, then title it:qer_water1.and save it as a JPEG. then put all the images in a new pakscape folder titled textures and put the SHADER file in another folder named scripts. It should then work!

to change the clarity of the water just edit the "alphaGen const" number (the larger you go the murkier it is! a value of 1 will make it look just like the image you drew for it)

Thanks a bunch for the help sniper, this will definitely be useful. As for the xmodel cypress trees I need, if any one can create xmodels of cypress trees for me I would be grateful and I'd even be willing to pay you for your work. Or, if some one could even teach me how to use milkshape (I've NEVER been good at using tutorials, if something goes wrong along the way, then following the tutorial even further could destroy whatever you're doing and you would NOT get the intended effect). Please PM/reply/Xfire/AIM me.
