If thats true, the barb would not have been pulled out by the Stingray swimming away. It was his human instinct to remove the foreign serrated barb.

the baby boy is young enough that he won't remember much. but the girl is 8 and he was out there filming shots of the stingray for HER new tv show (for kids).

Being underwater, and the fact that it all happened so suddenly...he probably didn't know the extent of the damage. He might have been acting on reflexes. Im sure he cared more for his family...yea...he loves animals, but he loves his family over them.

I think a Stingray barb actually detatches itself when it is used, and then they grow a new one.

Man, in seeing more and more of this guy on TV recently I'm remembering how great his 'character' was. There was a bit of him on Conan O'Brien that was hilarious. He seemed to care about animals, conservation, and the environment, and also about children. Very sad.
