Hey guys.

I'm back for a little bit.  There's something I thought I'd pass on if you're interested.

Since the Quake III Arena engine source code was released last year, I've been very adament about seeing if we can get the Elite Force engine source released under the same type of conditions.

Having the Elite Force source code would be extremely useful in the fact that a lot of engine limitations can be lifted, and it can also potentially be enhanced to include more features reminiscent of the types of games we see today.

I've been in contact with one of the developers at Ravensoft for the past few months seeing about what is necessary for such a thing to be authorized.

In any case, they said that the release of the Elite Force engine source code will ultimately be up to Activision.

We recently heard back from Activision that they currently have no plans for authorizing the release of the software, which is my guess that it was dismissed pretty darn quickly.

In any case,I was told it may be possible to sway their decision if there is an indication that Elite Force is still a relatively popular game (ie, not stone dead lol ), which I believe it is.

So it is my intention to spread the word that any still-current fan of EF can help contribute to the release of this source code.

We need to e-mail the producer of Elite Force and let him know that this game is still alive and kicking.

The producer of Elite Force was Mr Graham Fuchs and his Activision e-mail address is GFuchs AT activision DOT com ( I managed to track down this e-mail on a public domain, so I am not breaking confidentiality stating it here : ) ).

If you would like to help contribute to this movement, please e-mail Mr Fuchs stating your concern over Activision's decision on this matter, and then spread the word so that more would do the same.

The key here is quantity. :)  Not spam, but an indication on how many people are still interested here. :)

Thanks guys!

....
The quake 3 engine source was released and prior the .dll files source for EF was released.  Since combining both of those basically gives you all of Elite Force, I fail to see what you want released.

You can just take the Quake3 engine and drop the EF QVM/dll's into it and have EF :P It takes a lot of hard work to port which someone called thilo is actually working on but its still not as good as having the actual source code to the EF's exe. For example one of the hard things to port over is the network encryption algorithm thats one of the problems thilo is having now.

Yes they did, but also the version of Quake3 that was released was a newer version. EF was built around an older version so that would explain some differences. But yes raven also modified it as well including some render calls to the engine. Like the Arc Welder lightning effect is not in the Q3 source. TiM and Thilo know which calls they are and arn't I don't remember :S
