I, as the title hints to, find ways to do even the simplest things wrong seven different ways.

I have found a new way to crash the Reflection Compiler, and I don't know what it is!

I have a hotel prefab, that has no reflection probes at all, causes the reflection compile to die with the "sp_tool.exe has stopped responding" error, no matter which map file I add it to.

I have added reflection probes, thinking "Maybe it wants more"
compiler says "GTFO! Im not working today".

There is a fairly large amount of script_structs and script_entities in the prefab as well as some malfunctioning portals, but as far as i know none of these impact the compile.

I also had the playerspawn outside of the playable area (still in the skybox) so as to trigger an Intro trigger. Is there some restrictions as to how close walls can be to the playerspawn or can it not look at caulk surfaces?

I know allot of these ideas sound idiotic, but i have been amazed at just how interconnected completely different parts of COD are.

Is there a check list of common causes I could work through?

Should i just scrap it and rebuild the whole section?

Any ideas as to what I have accidentally built in my hotel, other than a hideous lobby?

not that it is very usefull info, but dont crowd your playerspawns.

I had it shoved in a closet sized whole between rooms, since i teleport the player to a struct anyways, and it caused my error.

well, this case is closed i guess

Are you getting any errors reported on your compile log or does it just crash to desktop? Just because it crashing at the lighting stage doesn't mean there isn't problems elsewhere on your map.

What have you changed/added since your last successful compile?

The best option normally is to revert back to a working copy, add a small section of what you have built since then see if it compiles.. keep repeating this over and over until you find the section causing the problem. It's often a dodgy brush.
