Hello.

I have the following question.

What is the best way to run a "Dedicated Internet Server"
from your own computer?

I have tried to run "Start New Server" from within
Call of Duty MP and then the "CoD Console" pops up.
I go back to multiplayer and in the menu go to "Join Game"
my server shows up an can connect.

But returning to the "CoD Console" i want to try to setup
"sv_mapRotation":

Copy and past the following lines:

"sv_mapRotation" is:"gametype sd map mp_carentan map mp_depot gametype dm map mp_nueville map mp_stallingrad" default:""

But no mapRotation. [eek]

How many players do i let connect?
I have a upstream off 750kb/sec or 85kB/sec.

Thanks.

I am not sure on the amount of players that you should allow on your connection. But It is usually easier to setup a map rotation using a cfg file.

the 'best' way to start a dedicated server is to set up a cfg file

there are utilities out there to help you do this ... look Here or Here

the amount of people per server? - that really depends on your connection, computing power, and ping

i would suggest starting low and working your way up to the barrier of your personal situation

start at 12 or 14 and go up from there

Thanks "StrYdeR" for your great help as always.

I shall download those utilities

and start as you said with a low amount of people per server.

Cheers.

Dont wanted to start a new topic for this.
and dont want to be a pain but...............

These above utilities are great. Created a
shortcut "Dedicated Server" and put this line in the target field.

C:\Program Files\ Call of Duty\CoDMP.exe" +set dedicated 2 +exec dedicated.cfg +map_rotate.

Start the server and everything works just fine.
The console comes up.
Now returning to the multiplayer shortcut fire it up and try
to search my server but no luck so people cant find my server.
Help [crazy]

So i have used "The All Seeing Eye" program because this has more functions to search and refreshed servers
and my server becomes visible and can use a invite function
so people get invites to join.

Question 1:
But why do i not find my server from within Call of Duty?
"set dedicated 2"
Question 2:
I just want to put my server IP on my site so people
can join my server so they dont have to search for it.
What is the best whay they can do that.

Thanks in advance.

The server can take time to register through the activision listings. Anywhere up to an hour. There is another little trick that you might do as well (Not saying this will solve your problem but it will register your server through more Master Server listings)

There is a line (Or should be) in your config similiar to this one:
Quote:

// MasterServers
sets sv_master1 "codmaster.activision.com"
sets sv_master2 "master.gamespy.com:28960"
sets sv_master3 "master0.gamespy.com"
sets sv_master4 "clanservers.net"
sets sv_master5 "codauthorize.activision.com"

Just copy and paste then reset your server. Now the other problem---is your server behind a Router?

Cheers

I sometimes wonder... "Why is that frisbee getting larger?" .............and then it hits me.

right....firstly it is not recommended to have more than one opengl utility running on the same box

secondly....your server and game will try and run on the same port and one of them will fail - on seperate boxes at least you can modify the port forward on your network

thirdly....ummm - there was a thirdly...oh ya - thirdly, to query your server to a website you will need to maintain static ip

this can be achieved by throwing a large sum of money at your isp every month...lol - actually it isnt that bad, but it is a step up from basic service

if you have a static ip, i would suggest looking into serverspy...it is free - if you can live with the ads

Thanks for the great advice and support will
try things out.

No i have not a router and use a static ip so i can get
me "ServerSpy" and shall experiment with the "MasterServers" settings in the dedicated.cfg also.
Keep it in mind about the "opengl utility" cause i can monitor
my server within the CoD Console.

I cant live without this forum.
Always quick help.
Thanks.
