Hi there, im a newbie and have a problem

When i come to test my map i keep getting timed out, when i bring up the console and enter +mp_timelimit 20 the console doesn't recognise the comand, so the only way i can test it is to create my own server, does this make a difference? and can anybody tell me what the correct command line is for timelimit and fraglimit? Thanks :)

I guess something has changed since I last worked on a DM map because it used to run right out of the compile process.

I'd like to run a test to see what's up, but I think the TF2 update is killing Steam's server and I can't seem to download the DM game (argh).

Anyway, what about loading the DM game, opening the console and typing "devmap mapname" where mapname is the name of your map? Is that what you are doing and finding difficult?

Some other console commands that might help:
developer 1
sv_cheats 1

Finally got it installed from steam.
I had no problem creating a map, compiling it and running it right from the compile process into the game.

Make sure you named your map dm_mapname. That "dm_" is important.

Hi thanks for the response.

When i want to test my dm_'mapname' i get kicked out pretty much straight away. When i type mp_timelimit 20 +mp_fraglimit 20 in the console. I get a cvar mp_timelimit 20 +mp_fraglimit 20 message in the map but i still keep getting timed out soon after?
However if i load my map from 'create server' this does not happen and i can check my wireframes etc without being timed out at all, does it make a difference doing it this way at all?

I am sure that I have experienced this same issue, but it was so long ago that I have forgotten how to resolve it. But to answer your direct question, "does it make a difference doing it this way at all"... no it doesn't make a difference.
