I've got a couple things I'm a little unsure about, so I made some screen shots to help explain. I've read a lot of the tutorials and have a pretty good understanding on most of this stuff, but wanted to get advice on a couple of areas specific to a map I'm making (just a building at this point)


1-a. I made a balcony and I'm curious if I should turn all or some of these into detail or if they should be left structural. I know leaving them structural will create a lot of extra leaf-nodes. However, I designed them big enough to be used as cover, so I'm wondering if they block enough of the player's view to warrant them being structural? Should I leave them structural only if they are enclosed areas generally?

1-b. I want to make my columns like the shape on the right of the picture, should I makes them out of seperate brushes, or is there a way to make that shape out of 1 brush? (welding verts or addeing edge loops to the square column)



2-a. I made a set of stairs and made those brushes detail. I want the player to be able to take cover behind the stairs. Does it look like I've set my portals up in this area correctly for that?

2-b. Do portals need to be flush (planar) with the faces of the construction brushes for the area im trying to create a cell for?

2-c. Will detail brushes (the steps in this instance) have collisions setup automatically, or will the player be able to walk right through them?
