Steve, its the same old story, again and again.

You dont blame the spoon for people being fat. So why blame the guns?
Can't people just be crazy anymore?

Not the spoon... but you can blame the food from being fat and bad.

Of course, overall you need to blame people from eating fat food, but why should some food to just be plain bad?

You that even on food we have sanity control.

So by that logic.. let people have guns.. just ban the bullets?  :s8:

the shooter in this case used a "low calibre rifle" (.22)

the "bullets" are less than a quarter inch in diameter.  they're used to shoot small game.

--> thats why so many people were "injured" but he barely managed to kill anyone.  he was armed for..   bear pheasant.
(welcome to canada)

if this were columbine the shooter would be 5 years younger and be armed with explosive rounds capable of taking down an elephant.
(heh)

I think both sides in this thread have a point : people should have guns for hunting and whatnot.
but you don't need combat weapons to shoot rabbits.
Canada has just as many guns per capita as the US (probably more, with all the hunters, and the low population)
but some of the weapons you can get in the states are just off the chain.
people who buy M-16's for "hunting" are so completely full of #### they're just deluding themselves.
and yeah, the opposite extreme is "bow hunting" with a crossbow..
but there's got to be a middle ground somewhere.

and for the record you CAN buy handguns in canada; you just can't carry them around.  its legal to own one (with a permit) but its just not legal to "carry" in public.  you have to transport the weapon in a locked metal suitcase (or just leave it in a locker at your gun range where you shoot).   my dad had a semi-auto colt when I was growing up (with a .22 insert in the barrel so it only shot .22 bullets, for beginners. later you'd take that out and convert it back to a .45) --> I learned to shoot with a handgun, in Canada,  when I was about 14.
