@Corran Your right it is unreachable.

Why?  Is his left arm like freakishly short or something?

So I guess you people dont think that shutting down a pipeline to repair it so it doesnt leak anymore *or* burst is a bad thing? I mean it's not like the US Government last year filed suit against BP for similar problems and it's not like there were rumors of another suit because of 50 leaking rigs. I mean it's not like an oil spill is a bad thing, is it?

Geez, gas costs an arm and a leg, either get over it or pressure the government to start drilling in Canada and Siberia and abandon the Middle East.

I think they should have had preventative measures in place.  Bottom line.

The point is, this problem isn't new. It should have been taken care of already.

This stuff is so unneccesary for us Canucks. Why don't we actually use the oil were taking out of the sand in Alberta?

If all that oil was dedicated to domestic use, or atleast, required to be sold domestically, I'm pretty sure the price of gas and the like here in Canada would not be near as high as it is.

Why pay for gas that was pumped out of the ground on the other side of the planet and transported here, when we can just use the stuff we have locally?

You know what's really funny?
The amount of oil the US imports from the middle east is like 26% of our total oil imports.(all of OPEC)
http://www.kyl.senate.gov/legis_center/rpc/rpc_052306.pdf
Let's face it, losing 5% of that oil due to fighting is nothing.  What drives up the price is stock brokers who panic and start selling stocks in oil thinking one company will be destroyed by war.  Stability makes people happy.  Chaos makes them panic.  And when the stocks panic, companies must raise the price to compensate for the losses.  You know, those Jets don't pay for themselves.  Essentially the root problem is a bunch of people don't want to lose their lifestyle and anything that threatens it even a little causes them to compensate.  So raised prices.
I say we cut out all Middle East Oil and only trade from stable countries.  That'll make the US investors more relaxed, which will bring the cost down.  The middle east guys will panic and try to sell at a higher price.  Supply and demand tells us that someone will buy it for the inflated price.  However they won't have the volume of the US and will probably be more likely to find alternatives faster.  Soon the entire middle east will be thrown into peace mode because all their economies collapse and they need to regain stability to bring back business.  By then the major oil companies will have lost so much profit that they'll switch to alternative fuels research and development, hoping to beat the others at the first major breakthru, get in touch with car makers, and essentially cause the great Vehicular Market Battle of 2015.  The winner will be the standard of fuel for the world.
