But when you bring it into the  public arena, you need to start considering others.

...but then if I don't, you're going to be intolerant of my views?

Didn't you learn common courtesy? Is it that difficult a concept for you? Not to mention that if the so called rules on this board were actually enforced (hint hint) this wouldn't be happening. It's not your views that bother me. It's the apparent lack of care for other people's. This isn't supposed to be a place where you can just come and demean people because they believe differently.

Carver: New or not... makes no difference at all. Scare him off? Who's going to be scared off by that?  :s8:

No one appointed me representative for anything. Did I say anything about speaking for them? No. I said there are some here, and they won't like being referred to as a cult. Are you expecting someone to step forward and say "Actually, I quite like having my religious beliefs referred to as a cult..."?

If the same had been said about any other religion I'd be defending them too. I may be an atheist, but I don't see why anyone else should have their own religious beliefs threatened.

I don't demand that ANYONE believe anything; but JUST as you are criticizing my beliefs, I am criticizing theirs.

Scientologists do not CHOOSE to belive what they've been convinced of, THAT is why I do not respect it. I do not respect hypnotic coersion.

So you are self appointed

They might not care what other people think.

But do they really need defending.

I'm not criticizing your beliefs. What you believe doesn't matter to me. Re-read my last post. I never said you were demanding anything. I said you are demeaning others for their beliefs.

Saying scientologists don't choose to believe is just assumption on your part. You wouldn't know what their reasons for being scientologists are.

Yes... maybe he does. So what? Some people have lives...

Quote

No. You're the one accusing me of trying to represent anyone. I never said I was.

Quote
They might not care what other people think.

Or they might have already posted in this thread stating similar complaints about it to mine. But you already knew that.

Quote
But do they really need defending.

That's irrelavent. It's against the freaking rules.

I am not accusing you of anything, But here you are.

Calling some one religion a cult is aginst the rules?

In your quote you only say they wont like it, not it is aginst the rules.

That's not what I meant, but you can interpret it that way if you insist on taking offense. I'm on here just as often as you I'd say...

No I'm not. I'm saying it's offensive to accuse someone of being part of a cult.

Quote

Making offensive comments about someone's religion is.

Quote
In your quote you only say they wont like it, not it is aginst the rules.

Again, making offensive comments is against the rules. Goes hand in hand.

Boys, boys, calm yourselves!  Both of you (Wheezle and George) are making the mistake of assuming you're being insulted.  And all of us have made/are making the mistake of lumping people of any one faith into a group.  "Group A believes/acts/says..." is generalization and unfair.  Just because the majority believes/acts/says one thing doesn't mean the whole does.  If you're going to judge a people group, judge each person individually.  If you're going to judge an idea (like the idea of Scientology itself), make sure you seperate it from it's adherents.

Actually, as I posted earlier, a panel of Canada's top experts on psychology, hypnosis, and therepy would seem to agree with me that it is forced coersion. Let me ask you this: If you believed that Scientology was only a result of forced coersion, would you respect it, or would you see it as a sort of crime?
