...they have trouble with their computers? Does it happen often, that some of your family members asks you "Hey, XY ... i think my computer is broken ... or somewhat ... i can't get into the internet to check my e-mails and watch my favorite (pxxx)sites. Could you help me?". So, if you do like to help your friends and your family, you maybe should help more people ... and work at a helpdesk! Here is an introduction (enjoy): http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=9079879012710526191(i hope this hasn't been here yet ... and i hope i didn't spell to much wrong) |

I am now offically network admin for my uni and 2 other companies all in the same building. I swear, I have to go into the NOC (Network Op's Cupboard) and almost scream at some of the questions I get asked, but its not the questions which annoy me, its the person not following what I say and doing there own thing to try to fix it, WHEN I AM STANDING BEHIND THEM. Perfect example, a week ago I had to rework our old login script to include a vbs file so it could set the default printer at login. I had informed all students before they try to print to save what they were working on and reboot their computer (Just to be on the safe side I tell them to reboot). But less than 5 minutes after, I get a student coming upto me asking why the printer isnt working. I tell her what we have done and told her to reboot her computer. She didnt come back to me after I told her what to do. 10 Minutes after she walked off, the teacher of the class came upto me and said that one of the computers was having problems printing. He showed me to the computer and sure enough, it was the same girl and she hadnt rebooted and instead tried to fix it herself. In the end, she ended up rebooting and it worked but sometimes I wonder if this job would ever be worth the pay. We also had this student who would force the shutdown of the computer with the power button held down. He then wondered why his computer was malfuntioning* after that. I ended up rebuilding his computer and showed him how to turn it off the right way, but even to this day I still cringe when I see him reach for the power button. Some funny stuff happens thought. I had this one student come upto me and ask "How long will the data remain on the harddrive if I unplug the computer and leave it there for a while?". It was so hard to keep a straight face. /rant Well, thats me done |

Some people don't like to ask for help from you, they are are afraid of looking and sounding stupid. What the don't realize is that they can seriously Bork-up their computer, and make more work for you. |
