Films will be available to download the same day the DVD is released. Consumers will get the film in three formats: two digital files available for instant download -- one for a PC or laptop and one for a portable device -- and a DVD copy sent by mail.

Initially, 35 Universal films will be available, including "Pride And Prejudice," "The Bourne Supremacy," "Love Actually," "Nanny McPhee" and "Bridget Jones."

They will be priced from £19.99 ($35) for the latest releases to £9.99 ($17.50) for older films. Downloading a film will take between 40 minutes and an hour.

Wow, that's overpriced when I can rip the $20 DVD to my laptop or PC for free....

Yes, definately a step in the right direction depending on what type of copyprotection will come along with or as a result of this.

Well apparently you get a disc copy too, which is nice.  However, I think alot of the people this might appeal to are well aware of how to rip their own DVDs.

I'ma need to wait for superfast internet connections before doing this. Eventually it'll be much like iTunes, no doubt.

Eh, it's most likely full of DRM that's just gonna cripple it...  Easier (and same price/cheaper) to just buy the DVD and rip it.

Meh...Iv`e had the DVD of King Kong for weeks now (which I am buying as well, incidentally), in perfect DVD quality, so unless they are releasing these downloads before the retail DVD date they are not going to tackle the Piracy problem.

I love the fact that they can stipulate that everyone who is downloading them once brought is going to have a boradband connect unless they are super small, super low quality movies.
