laugh all you want, i haven't found another engine that gives away source code...

and for us "abnormal" gamers that is a big deal  :s6:

HL did I dont know about HL2....JK2+ should ahve but Lucus arts is funny about gamers makeing a better game..I wodner what happen to the JK1 TC for quake 3...mmmmmm

I loved unreal 1 it was so easy to code for 0-o
I still love U1 *L*

your right, i am sorry, if i wanted to work with old technology i could pick half life or unreal. but i am not  going to learn much about cutting edge AI there, and i am not looking for "easy to code" engines. if i were going to pick an old engine it would probably be quake 3. bottom line is i don't really care to program in C, that rules out all of the above if i am not mistaken.

i really don't want to install steam on my machine, which is the only way you can legally get any part of the hl2 sdk right? i admit i dont know much about the HL2 sdk and i could be wrong, please tell me if i am, but there isn't a whole lot happening in HL2 along the lines of mp bots, since that is what i do, i wouldn't really be able to do much there either.

bottom line is anyone can download the game source to quake 4, a game that was just released, you don't even need to buy the game. putting together an sdk and documenting it as well as id and raven has takes time. without them spending the time on this we modders could not bring you game enhancements.

you asked what's improved, i answered  :p

No no my bad if I upseted you,I am mostly annoyed at the fact that mdoers have to fix retail games these days....I'd like to learn alil codeing for the DOOM 3 engine I did change some q2 code once ,changed the basic shotgun into a machine gun useing the animation tick trick and added the Cluster grenade and BLaster bounceing *L*
From what I recall of the Q3 engine it uses C++ so D3 should to right?

Know of any tutorail sites and what would be a good program to edit code with?
I mostly like doing small changes to weapons.

quake 3 was written in C, which isn't quite C++.

doom 3 was written in C++ and there was alot of logic put into a scripting language id created called doomscript.

quake 4 moved away from doomscript for weapon and ai logic and focused on using c++ for it and using doomscript for map logic and interactivity.

you will find everything you need to get started including what free editors to use and tutorials on making changes.

what you won't find is a bunch of people complaining, in fact, most of the time we just don't put up with it over there.

i understand that alot of people are annoyed about the state of games that are released today, especially quake 4, i just think they should find something better to do with thier time to sit up here and whine about it.

oh cool I kinda got off weapon ediitng sicne HL was in C or soemthign like it and thier were no simple editors at the time,one of the reasons I loved Unreal script I tried U2 and UT03...I just cant seem to code for it ><.

I want to focus on alt fire how hard for a noob to do that?
