I personally love playing games cooperatively with my friends, and SOF2 seems to have a lot of potential. I think it would be a bit too complicated and time consuming to get the single player game to work coopertively, but there's another option: Modify the bots.

It's already pretty interesting playing the objective based modes against bots, where humans are the attackers and the bots are the defenders (doesn't work the other way around). But generally speaking using bots doesn't provide a proper coop experience, because the bots are really intended to emulate a real human playing deathmatch, and so they go running around and often don't guard the objective well enough. But perhaps after tweaking the code a bit it may be possible to make bots feel more like, say playing against an AI in rainbow 6.

The bot source code is already available, so it's probably possible for someone with some programming experience to pretty easily create a coop mod. I might attempt it myself, if I have the time, but for now I'm interested in everyone's opinions. Here are some ideas in point form:

1. I'd say start with programming the bots to guard an objective. Porgram tghem to find good camping positions near the objective and to respond to sounds and events (i.e., their comrad being shot through the head.)

2. If the bots are pretty much just guarding then they should techincally work on RMG maps, which would add a huge amount of variety to the game.

3. Teach the bots to go prone, suppress with machine guns and efectively snipe.

4. In the case of infiltration, once an objective is taken, the bots should all hunt down the person with the obective.

5. For Demolition, perhaps there could be bots spread throughout the level, and after the bomb is planted they all converge on the bomb, making it a sort of "hold the base" mode as in Ghost Recon, if anyone knows what I mean.

6. Actually "Hold the base" mode could be a mode on it's own. It's a lot of fun in Ghost recon. If any bot makes it to a certain point for more than a few seconds the human team loses.

7. If bots are programmed to mostly just stay put and respond to threats, then elimination would essentially turn into a "terrorist hunt", where there could be a group of enemies in every room.

I'm sure others have more ideas -- that is if anyone actually reads these forums. :-P

Have you tried the CRSbots? They are the best bots out there, they have been improved a lot over the original release - although I'm not sure where one can grab a copy of the latest version.

I believe Kris (slowJusko) has pretty much finished with SOF2.

PwnBOTs are based on the CRS botcode and are much better... get them at www.sof2files.com.

Make sure and get version 1.2 if available.
