You don't have those streets in the US??

I'm in Canada, but not usually, no. Sometimes parks or recreational areas have walking/cycling paths where no cars are allowed, but if it's labeled as a "street" there are more than likely to be cars.

There is the phenomenon of the "street festival" where part of a road is closed off to traffic for a weekend or possibly longer, normally associated with a specific event of some kind - music, food, etc, but they usually don't last that long and cause traffic problems
