I had absolutley no desire to see the first LOTR but this new one looks really good.

####, I think it's too geeky!  It's mostly because a lot of the episodes and movies are just plain bad, and yet we still love it.  The LOTR movie rocked, and from what I've read of the book (I just can't force myself to read all the way through any of them), it's a great book.  So people understand why other people devote their lives to LOTR.

It's also because a lot of Star Trek geeks know insanely minute details about everything, and in general, Star Trek geeks aren't stealth geeks, while LOTR fans know only what they are obviously told, and maybe the indeces, but that's all they can know, because until now, there wasn't a movie worth paying attention to.

Finally, LOTR got a lot more hype than Insurrection, as I remember it, so if you knew exactly when the new Star Trek movie was being released, you were a dork for knowing.

I agree with Corran, except that I don't mind that that's going to happen.  Paramount is still going to continue to produce Star Trek movies, maybe not TNG movies, but still movies and shows, maybe not very high-caliber, but still, it's something.  And they know that we'll eat it up because we're just that #### geeky.
