What does your site need to support to allow password protected pages again, someone told me before and I fogot, is it SSL??? Or something along those lines?

And can anyone point me in the direction of a good Flash site, with tutorials and stuff (got Deja Vu here, cant be bothered lookin for my old thread tho)

I think CGI would probably be what you're looking for.

Depends what you mean by "password protected".

SSL is an encryption protocol commonly used for "secure" web pages, nothing to do with passwords that I can recall.

If you're just looking for a box to pop up with a username/password prompt, it depends which OS/web server software you're using:

- on WinNT/2000 with IIS you have to select the appropriate authentication option in the site properties (use NT challenge response if you ONLY want users with IE to be able to authenticate - doesn't work with other browsers).  Then create appropriate user names on the system and access permissions on the files/folders

- on unix/linux with Apache (last I used was 1.x, haven't used 2.x yet), you can set up a file called .htaccess with username/password pairs, then edit your httpd.conf file, go to the entry for the site (really depends how you've set it up) and tell it to use the htaccess file (you can specifiy all or some users in your .htaccess file, it's really up to you).  Best check the Apache docs for more details.

If you're looking for an integrated web page to appear and do authentication (rather than a separate pop-up box), that would be a script of some sort - as Agent mentioned, a CGI script would work, or ASP script depending on your plaform.  Try a google search for cgi authentication script.

Don't ask me cause it would probably close the thread or jam it with 2 pages worth of info.
