We'll I forsee the outcome to be inevitable, sof2 dieing a slow death like the infamous, Team Arena Add on for Quake 3. Excuse me for my bluntness in the forthcoming but.... List of why sof2 will die... 1. Bots on servers (as in actual AI bots, they are just no fun to play with, why not just play the single player? waste of time IMO (Multiplay was meant to play other people online not bots)) 2. team icon (seems it was made for newbs) 3. Lack of weapons 4. Very hard to set up a server (with configs, settings, etc..) 5. Same with client config's (generally pretty hard, if you dont know to set your LAN to DSL if you have DSL your pretty much screwed for online play, yes it seems simple to us but ask any 15 year old kid who plays this game on their parents computer will NOT KNOW HOW TO SET THEIR CONFIG RIGHT) 6. Servers host way to many clients. This game was meant to play as 5v5 or 6v6 (12 vs 12 just sux) 7. This game was kinda sorta a rip off of CS, just a better engine and better graphix (but was it worth 50 bux? I bet the kids who bought this game will tell their friends no, just keep playing CS.) Other than that I commend you raven for a very good game. I have to admit I hadnt had as much fun playing an online game since starcraft. But I am sure you played your cards perfect, considering you have really nothing to worry about since you are making quake4, which will be the game to end all games! I will see you all very soon. |

1. Bots? Never played bots on a public server. Go to a different server.
2. I think team icons add to the speed of play, making it more of an action game.
3. True, it's starting to get boring.
4. Okay, but I don't want to set up a server on my Cable connection. Who would?
5. Trust me at 15 I know the difference between LAN and DSL(acually there was no DSL when I was 15, but I would have known).
6. blah, find a smaller server. Big is nice sometimes.
7. Never played CS, nerver will.
My reasons the game will die:
1. I'm am to good at it, so it is getting boring for me. New Weapons and Maps would help.
2. UT2003
3. BF1942
4. 007: Nightfire (I hope it's good)
But SOF2 is the funnest game I've played since Duke3D(It should be noted that I didn't play any games between Duke3D and RTCW, what did I do with my life all those years?). |

>>1. Bots on servers (as in actual AI bots, they are just no fun to play with, why not just play the single player? waste of time IMO (Multiplay was meant to play other people online not bots))
Default SoF2 doesn't support bots.
>>2. team icon (seems it was made for newbs) What the? It rocks. Helps teamplay a lot.
>>3. Lack of weapons 2 pistols, 3 sub-machineguns, 2 assault rifles, 2 shotguns, 4 grenades, 1 sniper rifle and 1 machinegun. CS has more, sure, but, err, who uses them all? Come on - Last I played (while back), the AWM, M4/Commando + MP5 Navy were the only weapons worth using in CS.
>>4. Very hard to set up a server (with configs, settings, etc..) Not any harder then CS, Q3:A etc.
>>5. Same with client config's (generally pretty hard, if you dont know to set your LAN to DSL if you have DSL your pretty much screwed for online play, yes it seems simple to us but ask any 15 year old kid who plays this game on their parents computer will NOT KNOW HOW TO SET THEIR CONFIG RIGHT) Defaults to 33.6k, so this shouldn't be a problem.
>>6. Servers host way to many clients. This game was meant to play as 5v5 or 6v6 (12 vs 12 just sux) Is a problem somtimes. Then again, 12 vs 12 on a big RMG map is fine.
>>7. This game was kinda sorta a rip off of CS, just a better engine and better graphix (but was it worth 50 bux? I bet the kids who bought this game will tell their friends no, just keep playing CS.) Worth every cent. No worthless weapons, better graphics, better sounds, better performance (if you have hardware setup correctly), less annoying players etc.
UT2k3 may cut into SoF2's popularity a tad, but UT2k3 is a different sort of game - very arcadey and run-n'-gun sort of play (withs it rocket launchers, flak cannon etc).
Can't really comment on BF1942, having not played it myself. What's I've heard of it though is that it needs a lot of people to be in game to be fun. I suspect SoF2 is the better game for a quick bit o'fun, where-as BF1942 needs you to be online with a lot of other people, co-ordinate things etc. |

7 reasons why SOF2 won't die: 1. People like it. 2. Same as above. 3. See #1. 4. Did I say people like it? 5. In case I didn't, people like it. 6. See #1 again. 7. What the h e l l, #1 again. |
